I'm having a new furnace and air conditioner put in and I'm just concerned that maybe this will emit some gas or something that will harm my parrots. Do I have something to be concerned about?

Well thats a ton of information to create an answer from, isn't it? So, short a ton of information, I am going to just make a bunch of assumptions here:

Likely natural gas or propane - in either case, no! Start-up and operation of all new technology furnaces for this group have burners that are separated from the interior air source, since they use only exterior air for the burners.

If you have an fuel oil burner. The new versions have a very similar system, but sometimes the Fall Start-up can be a bit flumee if you will.

It is my hope that you had or will have the duct work cleaned prior to the installation. All that stuff in the ducts is just going to keep on flowing into your home.

As part of the installation, I hope that your Installer upgraded the furnace filter to the newer 3" wide style filter. If so, assure that you are using the filter that fits the needs of you're family and Parrots. If not, buy a box of the 1" filters and change it a least once a month or depending on what you are finding, sooner!

Talk to them about a humidifier (digital series - more accurate). This last Winter had near everyone in the Great White North battling very dry air in their homes!
