Hi everyone:
I hail from Ct. at present. I have 2 birds. An umbrella cockatoo and a severe macaw. Sophie my U2 came to us in 07 with issues and was older, but I have no idea how old. She is a sweetheart, came from a checkered past. We think she was abused. The old boy that brought the birds in this pet store was getting them from rescues and reselling them (we found out later). Of course we weren't told the truth about cockatoos, but we would have taken her anyways. Lilly the severe macaw was from the same place but was a young bird less than a year old. Sophie was originally going to be my wife's and Lilly was my birthday present the next spring. I had gone there and played with a different severe a while before but by the time I decided to buy it it was sold to a guy that drove around with it in the back of his truck in the hot Florida sun. Unfortunatly, we. Myself and the girl that owned the shop were not able to catch him to take it away. I have always wanted to have an avairy and had a couple birds when I was young. I'm retired now so I have plenty of time to play with the girls. I feed them brown rice veggies and fruit, no pellets and only a few seeds now and then. Do others here feed this way or does everyone believe they need pellets? Mine do not like the pellets much and most of it is wasted. We started them on this diet about 5 years ago and they are both happy and healthy.
