I got my first cockatiel 5 months ago. He has been great. We never had any issues with him. Right away we were able to hold him and teach him different things. I had to start working more (just during the holiday season) so he was left home alone for longer. I felt bad for Petrie so I decided to get a second bird. When I went to look a a beautiful cockatiel someone else was looking at him so I had to make a choice to buy him right then. My long hours are over at work so I am able to spend all day training him, but things havent been so great this time. He was great at the store, same one I got Petrie at, but now home Spike wont let me even touch him. He seems interested in me, will move to the side of the cage that I am on and watch me, but the second I try to touch him he bites me. Maybe this is normal and we just got really lucky with Petrie. But if you have any ideas on how to get Spike at least let me touch him that would be great.

Thanks

Give him time. Yes, I think you were just lucky with petrie, Spike is scared of you, give him time and let him get to know and trust you.

Sometimes it can take them awhile to develop the trust. When I took in a pair of tiels they were not so friendly with me, it took them a year to get used to me and stop trying to attack me. At least I can get them to step up without fuss now days. Some birds just don't like to be touched, they like to be talked to and all but don't really want you touching.

well spike is intersted in you, and thats a good sign. you can try playing with petrie,in front of spike, so he might get the idea. how long have you had spike?? if its less than a month, or so, then its okay. a month is still a short time. well for now, let him be, and talk to him. does he eat out of your hand? thats a great way to start.
you were kinda lucky with petrie. every bird is different.
