new cage?

Gwynn came to me with the cage he's always had, all his seven years. It's adequate, but I'd love to give him more room. On the other hand, he's been moved around such a lot - five times in less than two months before settling with me for the last six weeks - and his cage has been the only constant thing in his life. This makes me wonder if a new cage would be too upsetting for him, especially so soon.

I'd be glad of any insight others might have on the subject.

How big is the cage he is currently in?

You could always get him a bigger cage, furnish it fully, and then let him go explore on his own terms, until you feel he's comfortable enough with it to move into his new adobe. It would probably help if you'd add some of his favorite toys to the newer cage.

I did the same as JerseyWendy has suggested when I got my girl a new cage. I put some of her perches and toys inside it and placed it beside her old cage. I allowed her to climb over and explore it for a day. The next day when I told her it was nite nite time, she just went into the new cage. Maybe let Gwynn move in when ready if you have the space for both cages.

Thanks Boysmom and Jerseywendy, that's the way I'd handle it when the time comes. My doubts are about whether he's ready for another change when his life has been so disrupted. I think I've answered my own question really, he's only been here six weeks and everything in his life has changed except for his own private space. I think it's too early to introduce a new cage, as much as I'd like to give him more space.
