New cage, new perches

R.I.P Kiwiberry, GCC.
So I've found a cage online I think will be large enough for Kiwiberry.
The dimensions are as follows; H: 157cm (61.8") W: 92.5cm (36.4") D: 62cm (24.4") and the bar spacing is 15-19mm (.5"-.7")
It is a corner cage with a little stand on top of it with 2 bowls.
Oughta be big enough for her, right?
What part of the cage is the depth part..?

I'm also looking at perches, I found sisal rope perches which was far too expensive in my opinion, especially since I'm gonna buy a bunch of sisal rope to make toys anyway, I figured I could make some perches myself.
Does anyone have any experience in DIY rope perches? Would really appreciate some help. I want to make some go across straight, maybe some diagonally, I would also like to make one that spirals, I figured you could use some sort of metal wire and wrap it in sisal rope, would that be a good or bad idea you think?

I also found 1m wooden perches that you can cut up yourself, they have different diameters, so I'm gonna buy several of those.
There are also some limestone and mineral perches, yay or nay?

:confused::confused:

Sounds big enough. I've got mine in a cage that would work for a 'zon, Grey or Goffin's!

If you're going to make a spiral perch or 'boing' as they're traditionally called, try twisted rope of any sort, preferably cotton. Not sure how exactly but apparently you can untwist it a bit and stick some wire in there. Again, I'm not sure that's correct.
Mineral perches are okay in my book, I don't know anything about limestone so we'll have to wait until an experienced member pitches in.

If you can find some nice clean, safe branches from outside, definitely try making your own perches. I hate the idea of birds standing on dowels all day. My cage currently has a mixture of about 60% wood/branch perches, 20% plastic (I wrapped them in sisal), 10% rope and 10% 'gritty' which includes any rough perch meant to file down nails. Variety is the spice of life!

As for the boing, I think it'd be easier to just wrap a thin rope around it a few times, just to make sure the bird can't get access to the wire, but I'll try untwisting it, sounds harder though, I haven't tried it before so what do I know :)

Good point, yeah. There are apple trees near the doctor's office, I could snap off some branches and disinfect them ;)
Speaking of which, how would you go about attaching them to the cage?

Shirre (getwoozy) makes and sells boings, she had a thread awhile back with pictures. I'm sure she can help you. I'd go get the links to her thread for you but I'm not sure how to do that yet on my tablet...... Good luck! Kiwiberry is going to be so happy:)

Hardware like this. Gotta make sure it's stainless steel though! :p
Unfortunately, it's hard to find very small hanger bolts, so my narrowest branch perches are just wedged in between the bars and secured with twine and a zip tie or two.

I would make sure any branches you use have NOT been sprayed with anything before using them. If they are by a Dr.'s office they have more than likely been sprayed with something in the last few years.

Amanda: Not sure if they have been, shouldn't chance on it though. I'll just wait 'till we go to the cabin :)

Melissa: I'll see if I can find them myself :) She's already happy ;) She's on my shoulder purring asking for cuddles.

Roanoke: I don't have access to a drill, I'll have to ask grandpa if I can borrow his some day, do you have any ideas for how I could go about it in the meantime?
