Looking for some input please. I have a two 1/2 year old congo. I took him in several months ago as his owner could no longer keep him. The cage he came in was much too small for him, so I saved up and recently purchased a brand new cage which is actually made for this kind of a bird. He has been housed in this cage about two weeks. Prior to being in this cage he was very affectionate, loved to be held and never, EVER bit, or even acted like he would. Now when I try to pet him he bites....everytime! Other info which may be pertinent to the issue at hand are he had been in previous cage for two years, I used to have him in my bedroom, with the new cage, we have put in front of the living room window since there is much more light, and more activity. I also have two cats, but he knew about them already. He seems to really like the cage, is really beginning to talk, I just cannot handle him anymore as he growls and bites at me.

Has anyone else ever experienced this type of behavior when changing cages or locations? What should I do? I miss being able to handle my bird :(

You can try using his old cage as a sleeper cage in your room, and see if his behavior improves...

CAGs are funny birds, and difficult to figure out sometimes...

Could be the cage. Could be the new location. Could be the activity. Could be just the change of scenery. (Something else interested him at the time you went to pick him up...)

Let him settle in and see what happens.

here with my CAG, been here for not eaven 2 weeks, he came in a tiny cage and was trying to bite me all the time, now he is in a much bigger cage and it's total the opposite, he is a different bird, I can pet him and he does not try to bite me anymore, I used the small cage a a sleeper for 3 nights but now he is in the new one all the time.

i think you need to move away from window hes to nervous looking out window all the time seeing different things needs to relax try away from window.

I think a lot of them don't like change mine won't sit on her play stand unless it's in the same place lol maybe he needs time to adjust
