Raven's cage all of a sudden is flaking off huge pieces of powder coating and now has an unacceptable amount of rust areas. 😕

I bought this cage for another bird in the past. I used it about 6 years? But in the past few years it has been in storage. Most of the time it had been outdoors with only a tarp over it, and the elements must have gotten to it, and shortened the life of this cage. It is a no name cage, although it actually came with SS bowls! I don't even remember where I got it. It actually seemed like it was going to last a little longer (only very minimal rust spots which I wasn't worried about), but just yesterday it started really 'falling apart' all of a sudden!

Areas like this on the bars. I'll have to cover with black electrical tape this week until the new cage gets here.

I ordered this one in link below in the black with silver vein kind of color.
It's a playtop instead of a dometop this time. I couldn't find a dometop which was not ridiculously tall. King's Cages - Avian and Pet Bird Cages, Supplies, Food, Toys, Perches, Aviaries, Pluck No More

This one is 2 inches less in the width, but that's fine. His cage now was originally purchased for a larger bird, so is a mansion for him. This one is still big enough for Raven to invite his friends over every night 😄.

I actually think I will be more comfortable with this one having 3/4 bar spacing instead of 1 inch, since his smaller friend Griffin is always over lol. Also it doesn't have as large of a gap between the grate and bottom tray. Hopefully it's small enough Griffin can't squeeze through. Overall though, this is the only cage I've found that has more of the features that I was looking for.

It should be here at least by the end of next week. I hope the difference won't be such a shock, but I had no choice!

He'll be super happy to have the playtop so when his friends visit they have a place to "party"

Sorry your old cage got so bad so fast.

Well, thats a nice cage for Raven! I agree with Amanda. Since he has the party pad, no wonder it got a tad trashed:54: Hopefully he will be more carful with his new mansion (he is getting his adult colors after all, perhaps it means he's maturing a bit;)).

Sweet cage, Julie! I'm sure that he'll love it! His main problem will be keeping everyone else out! Hahaha!

Congrats, Raven!

Sorry you had to replace Raven's cage so soon, but he needs a penthouse to entertain his buddies.

Thanks! :) I'm not looking forward to putting it together, but I'm excited to be getting it. Robin needs a new one too (though not as urgently). That will have to wait til at least Christmas.

I will have to tell Raven now that he's getting to be a big boy, I'm letting him have a brand new house, and I expect him to be responsible with it especially when "the guys" come over every night ;) No little beer cans and shredded toys and poops everywhere :D

No doubt Griffin will just 'assume' it's all for him. He'll be the rude neighbor for sure. Lol, he assumes EVERYTHING is his! My other birds aren't really like that. I think that hands down Griffin is the most obnoxious parrot I've ever had, (and I've had several other species including a Slender Billed Too). He is also the smallest parrot I've had besides a cockatiel. :11: I don't know if other male Ruppell's are like him, but that kid is like the Tazmanian Devil, thank goodness he's small

Julie, I am sure Raven will enjoy his new digs. He has probably already sent the invites out for the cage warming party. :D

Wow, Julie, I LOVE that cage! It's crazy how quickly his current cage started disintegrating!
I can't wait to see pictures of the boys enjoying their new man cave:)

I had some left over credit from King's... Last year I bought a nice natural wood perch there which was advertised (inaccurately) to fit my certain model cage, but NO it didn't and we had to painstakingly cut down the size and make a new notch in the end. It wasn't cheap, and I wanted to send it back and exchange it, but she measured all of them in the warehouse and they were all the same  They at least gave me some credit for it, so I used it to get one of the below stands in black (I've wanted one of these forever)!

I would like to hang a Jolly Ball that I have on it and see if Robin would like it.

Wow, Julie, that's a super nice cage!! :) I'm positive it will be an instant hit (with everyone, lol).

I'm also quite shocked to see how quickly his current cage went 'downhill'. Are you close to the water by any chance?

I'm not close to the water, but when was stored under the tarp outdoors for a while I think it took a pretty good hit with all the elements. :( it "seemed" only a little worn, and pretty much still okay for a while until it "exploded" large parts of it's finish off this week :(

Well, at least you have Raven's Christmas gift this year covered now:) Robin's too by the sounds of it with that nice stand! Now what to get for that naughty little Griffin.....

Yes, Raven's cage is his early Christmas present. I'm sure I'll buy or make him a toy also :). Honestly I really didn't need to go putting that much money on the high balance credit card I use for all my vet stuff (that you know about) right now, but heck it was kind of an emergency, and I'd hate to do a phone order with a debit card (just a bit paranoid). After the fiasco/disappointment with Griffin's A&E, I had no choice but to look for a better made cage this time.

Robin's 20 year old cage, I've been saying for years now I need to get him a new one. Too bad Cal Cages went out of business. It's so hard to find a cage these days with everything in terms of quality, price, and with the criteria I'm looking for. I'll probably look for one for him for Christmas.

Sorry Griffin... I can't buy anything else lol. He'll get a toy ;). He'll be completely clueless and happy anyway haha. He already just assumes ALL the bird stuff is his, and HE is the one letting everyone else use everything :D.

I wish I could get budgie Twigs a flight cage, but that will have to wait.
