White-capped Pionus-9yrs & a Peachfaced Lovebird-2yrs (for now...)
So, the worst part about working for a petstore, is that you see all the birds and fall in love with all of them. I have a Pionus parrot so I love medium sized birds, but the species that always pull at my heart strings are budgies. These birds are so misunderstood by the public and i think most ppl (uneducated ppl) see these little guys as a 'disposable' pet since they are so cheap. But budgies are so smart and such loveable little guys. And so EASY to tame! They can learn to talk, which some parrots never do, and one budgie was even competing with an african grey on most words spoken (in guineas book of world records). They are such intelligent little beings and have the potential to make amazing pets! ~sorry, I'm rambling~

Any way... This little gal was at the store (and I've told the manager a dozen times the budgie cage was over populated - they're generally very good ppl, but like I said, budgies are under-appreciated). Her tail was plucked off by the other birds, she's missing a nail on one foot, and her head has bald spots. Any way, the manager felt bad too, and asked if I would take her home for free. How could I say no?

Haven't named her yet. Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading :) :whiteblue:

Awww, what a heart-warming story :)

I have had two blue birds before. One was a budgie named Skyler. The other was a parrotlet named Frostie. Just suggestions :)

Good luck with your new birdie!

Pearl as in "pitiful pearl" ?

I like unique sounding names (although skyler is pretty cute for a blue bird)
My lovebird is named Zephyra (Fiance calls her Zippy or Zipper)
I had another budgie (a boy) named Sloan
Society Finch named Berwin

But on the other hand, I was looking for names meaning 'Lucky' cause she looks so pitiful and I was hoping to give her some better luck. Made the mistake of commenting to my fiance that the name Zelda means Lucky. My fiance is a bit of a video game geek, who use to play video games ALOT. So needless to say, he's decided the Bird's name is Zelda with or without my consent. LOL!

P.S.
To all you ppl not associated with any games what so ever, Legend of Zelda is the name of an older but very popular nintendo 64 game that came out a long time ago and has expanded into mutliple different games as well as different game systems. Zelda is the princess that the main character, Link, had to rescue in the original Zelda game.

Don't forget to quarantine!
That particular budgie may have a mild case of French moult. Probably not, but make sure to be very strict on quarantine anyway! Wash hands, shower, change clothes in between handling them. Make sure they are in entirely separate parts of the house.
Budgies are so misunderstood. They are just teeny parrots!

I did some research and don't think she has French molt. Her feathers have chewed off ends - all of her tail feathers are only about 2/3 of an inch long have very ragged ends. Also she has bald spots on her head and upper back. But thank you for the heads up. I appreciate it. She's in a different part of the house and I will definately clean up inbetween birds.

Another reason: the French molt is said to attack the wing feathers more prominantly, and she has nice long wing feathers. I will still keep up the quarantine just because you never know what a bird can carry even if they don't show any symptoms.

Thx

I think Zelda is a pretty name. (My boyfriend talks about that game all the time lol)

I used to play Zelda! It was a good game. Budgies are cute little birds. Mine are happy little birds that sing on a daily basis. I rescued them from outside in the middle of winter. Their names are Goth & Glam. I used to raise them and their wonderful little birds. :)
