Finished putting together a new cage for my budgies today. Need to go out and get more ladders/toys for the bottom part.

Any suggestions for what else I can do? I'll be introducing the budgies to their new cage either tomorrow or day after.

Every toy in here is as "natural" as possible... my budgies are weird and don't like things that are too fluffy, fuzzy (my hair doesn't count though - and is prime nesting location in winter), or colourful. So most of the toys in here are toned down in colour - I'm introducing colour bit by bit - they like green and red, but skitter away from anything too vibrantly coloured. Never worked this out.

And a little play top ready for when I get around to setting up the netting.

So basically - reason for a new cage: The cage the budgies are in currently has issues in terms of cleaning it easily, and also mice getting in it. (Example today was a mouse got stuck in the wire - which I managed to free with difficulty *sigh*) If I hadn't found the mouse trapped in the wire today, it would've died - I'm in North Queensland and the temp today hit a max of 32C.

The local pet store was running a promotion of minimum 10% off in store, up to 100% off. I figured, give it a go - saw a cage I liked and tried for the pot. All we had to do was select a ball from a bucket, and whatever the percentage off was, we got it. I only got 10% but still, better than nothing. :p Bought the cage for about $200, brought it home today and assembled it.

I rather like this cage as it has a slide out tray for easy cleaning, and a smaller door opening. Their current cage is about 3 times the size of this one width wise, however it is a pain-in-the-butt to clean. It has a sand bottom which I have to rake and because of the door size opening, I'm always paranoid the budgies will fly out. (Outdoor cage and budgies are unclipped at the moment) I'm going to redo the old cage completely, but I'll need to remove the current floor and dismantle completely before I do so.

Given the amount of time that'll take, I figured a it's a good excuse to get a new cage. :p And I had fun decorating it!

I have no idea if I will move the budgies back to the old cage or not - I may even completely redo the cage and start growing some fig bushes in there - I have no idea, but I want time to experiment with my ideas, so needed a more 'permanent' home to do so. :)

Lovely Cage and set up:) I think your Budgies will be sooo happy in there:)

Thanks! :D they were very skeptical of everything in there, but I've tried to make it as exciting as possible. I hid millet under the vine toys in the foraging coconut which they discovered, moved the seed stick around throughout the day to get them used to standing on different platforms, and adjusted things as I noticed.

Once they discovered the water though, all the food on the right hand side of the cage had to be relocated to the left hand side... XD They made such a huge mess and looked very proud of themselves for doing so.

I still have a fair bit of work to do on it, but it's coming along nicely. :) :blue2:

What a couple of gorgeous boys you got there!

And I think they like it! ;)

That's a amazing and huge cage, your budgies must be so happy :D

I made a post about this, but if you have eucalyptus(pesticide free) you can add branches to your budgies cage. I do it with my galah and she loves it :D They can also eat the flowers and gum berries that the tree produce.

Looks like budgie heaven. Mine also love thin natural branches (about the diameter of my little finger) that I run through the cage; they also really enjoy a roll of toilet paper that I have hanging from thin rope. The perch on it, shred it, and chase each other through the tunnel... And when it gets poopy, I just peel off a layer.

Oh wow, your from australia XD It seems a lot of Australians ad foliage to their parrots cages. I'm lucky that I have a little(and by little I mean 60ft tall) bit of australia in my backyard lol

Yeah, I love doing it. When bottlebrush plants are in flower, they adore the red flowers and move shredding them apart and eating the nectar. :) I've yet to try hibiscus, but it's next on my list.

I'll be doing a scrummage around work next week with the groundskeepers when they start logging some trees in prep for cyclone season. I'll need some more perches for both my budgies and my hahns. :D

What a lovely setup for your budgies!!! I have a couple similar cages, one for my Lory and one for some of my Cockatiels. It's a easy cage to move in and out of the house for easy cleaning with a hose outside. :)

Love both the cage and the set up. Happy birds:)
