Welcome to the forums, your new friend looks like a green cheek conure, but it's kind of hard to be sure, looking at the avatar thumbnail pic.....

Hello and welcome, Carolyn! This link may help to identify your bird.

Green-Cheeked Conures - The Majestic Parrot

You might want to try photobucket to add pics to your posts. It's easy to use and you aren't limited to how many photos you can post.

You can have your bird DNA sexed by your vet or by sending a blood or feather sample to a lab. I recently used Avian Biotech, it's quick and easy.

Here are a couple of great links for diet and bonding.

Aw you got a green cheek counre on your hands! Welcome to the club! They are the best little guys! So funny, cuddly and just little clowns! They are also very smart, my green cheek is always aware of what is going on, its like she listens to our conversations, she laughs at the funny times and looks at us intently in our other conversations! He is very cute, he looks like a cinnamon green cheek conure! Congrats!

Your new pic looks kind of like it may be a dilute or possibly fallow green cheek.....a cute bird in any event ! ! !

Whats the best thing to line the bottem of the cage with I was told news paper but rio seems to enjoy shredding it

Rio is a real little beauty!

I don't get a newspaper so I get non waxed masking paper that is used for painting from the local hardware store. It is cheap and a roll will last quite a while. All my bird homes are grated on the bottom so they can't get at the paper to shred though I'll ball up some paper and let my Senegal have some fun with it.

Ooh looks like a yellow sided Turquoise or Pineapple turquoise!! Hard to tell which by the pic lighting. That's a more unusual mutation and such a pretty one. I see that mutation for sale on breeders websites quite often, though you don't hear of owners having them. Congrats!
