All of the species are great to own, what it comes down to is how much time, money, and patience you have. Larger birds will require much large cages, food is more expensive, toys will need to be replaced much sooner, and how you interact with them will change in numerous ways. Smaller birds are a bit easier to care for since most people are not scared as much about being bit and hurt. Cages are smaller and easier to maintain, toy destruction wont be as bad, and in most cases smaller birds are easier to handle. I have always found a good starter to be a Goffin Cockatoo, or a Quaker (which are not legal in your state). But a big part of that is also personal preference. Give me a little more information about what type of interaction you are looking to have with said companion, price you are looking to work with, and space you have so we can better help to guide you towards what you are looking for. There are plenty of people here with experience of all ranges who can help with almost anything you need.

And.... WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!

My Husband and I have a Goffin Cockatoo and Love him to death!!!! Well my first bird, and couldn't of asked for a better one. He has his squawking first thing in the morning and at night, very talkative and loves to cuddle. Goes through alot of toys and Food! : ). I'm home all the time so plenty of time to devote to him. And yes he wants all the attention he can get!!! He does get beaky at times when he's not in the mood to be handled, but that's not to often.

I have plenty of space inside and outside. Price well i have plenty of time to save up. Im in no rush. Id like to be completely prepared before taking the step. I have cocktiels(sorry im an awful speller i think thats not spelled right) and i help my friend breed them so im used to birds. Just never had anything larger. Im not sure exactly what they are but my old neighbor had one of the blue ones with a gold chest. I feel in love. I used to visit him daily. So thats what im leaning to when i get one. Like i said i have a ton of questions and research to.do yet. But im glad for any advice and knowledge i can gain.

Its not just the saving part, its the monthly costs also. But with that being said, im sure you understand what I am getting at.
Next, how much hands on time would you like? Something stuck to you like velcro? Something a little more independent, but still wants to cuddle a bit? or something that really wants to do its own thing and will tolerate being handled? There is just so many temperaments to be considered, and then each bird could also act completely out of character. I bought an CAG thinking.. YAY a great talker, a thinking mans bird.. but no. He seems as if he was raised with Goffins. He wont talk, he does not do much thinking, but he cuddles all day long LOL

The middle type would be best because im not home 24/7. Tucker my neighbors bird loved cuddles but was also cool with being left alone all d as y while they worked. Plus they are absolutely beautiful. Blue, yellow, green. Ahh can you tell im in love with that bird. He was my buddy till i moved. I even baby sat him. Do you think that type would be ok for me. because thats what i really want. Im stable and have no kids so I can afford weekly costs. I mean like thousands of $ a week would not be ok lol but i can handle normal stuff. I have my other birds. So used to that :):)

Welcome to the forum!

What your describing is called Blue and Gold Macaw. As you can see one from my signature. They're not beginner birds for sure but requires some knowledge of birds and also have the patience to work with them if needed. Cockatiels are wonderful birds for you to start with as they give you some knowledge on how to care for birds. :)
