Hi everyone. I have a pair of budgies. For a year my female has been destroying anything wooden in their cage and walls when they fly out of their cage . I have been throwing away all this material, when today I realized that she has been making nesting arterial - poor thing! So much hard work every day all in the bin.

Probably the smart thing to do, unless you are looking for them to breed.

Femsle Budgies in breeding condition have this strong instinct to chew, but it's not to make nesting material. In the wiild the females excavate and modify tree hollows in which to lay their eggs. They don't build nests and when provided with nesting material in their nestboxes they usually toss it out the entry hole or push it all aside I'd they can't.

Feel free to toss out all the wood chips, splinters and other debris she creates. Here's what one of my girls did to one of her playstands. She's quite the beaver!

I logically know birds do this. But seeing it is a major eye shock. Fortunately I don't have a chewer. Just a gold level disassembling agent.

No! A budgie did that kind of destruction? My macaw doesn’t even do 1/50th of that kind of chewing!

That's just ONE of her playstands. This is her other one. She can chew for hours.
I must say she's smart enough not to chew her own perches
