Luv, Guapo my SI male Eclectus rules the roost and keeps Neleno my GW macaw in check. It's always the little guys who keep the big guys in their place.
I watch them very close when they are playing on my couch or when they are on their Java trees plating with toys. Both boys are very competitive with eachother and getting my attn.
If I ever have to correct one of them, the other gets nervous and will say no no, this seems to stop me in my tracks to giggle.
Jersey, I used to watch Will and Grace T V show and Jack used to have a Hybrid Macaw named Guapo. I was on vacation in the State of DE at the Beach and they have a petstore . They sell a lot of garden fountains and other things, so one day I stopped in to check it out and inside the store, they sell Parrots, birds, and Macaws. I fell in love with the Male Eclectus and in fact order one that very day as all the birds in the store were not for sale as they were the owners birds.
The owner explained that she had eggs in the State of FL and she was holding one for me. I gave her a deposit. after reading many books on the Eclectus, I knew that it only takes a few weeks for the egg to hatch. So every week that went by, I would call to see if my baby had hatched. I felt as if I got the run around, so I asked for my deposit back and the owner was great in sending me the deposit back. I then found a breeder in VA. That day, the T V show Will and grace came on and aired Guapo so the name stuck as I knew I was getting an Eclectus.
After 1 year past and wanting another bird to add to my flock, I met a rescue GW at my bird club, he was so sweet. I asked the owner if they had other GW at the rescue, she advised me that they did not.
I knew that this was going to be my next bird. The GW sort of looked like my Italian Grandmother names Nelena. I called my Breeder asking if she bred GWs, she said that she did and her Hen just layed two eggs in March. On April fools day, Neleno hatched. LOL this should have been my first sign. I drove every weekend to meet both brother and sister. Neleno was 2 times the size of his sister and my breeder stated that Neleno at this age was bigger then both his Mom and Dad at that age and both GWs were very large. With his big head, big feet and so clumbsy I just knew this was my boy. The issue I had was this, I really wanted to name my GW after my Grandmother due to her having a large nose, red hair and about the sweetiest person you would have ever met. My Grandmother had past and I wanted to keep her name somehow in my Family. I placed this story on this message board and someone can up with the name Neleno instead of Nelena. In Italy the names of Girls normally end in the letter A where Male names end in O so Neleno stuck.
I'm glad you all like my pictures and the wonderful comments. I have to figure out ways to download more current pictures of my boys and I hope your enjoy this story. Thanks Joe
