Neighbour screaming - bird screaming (long story) suggestions plze?

Christa?? What does this guy go on about?? Is he just daft and has a few screws loose and screams for the joy of hearing himself scream?

I am truly sorry, everyone seems to have covered the bases here so I can't contribute anything new  I really hope your other neighbors will join in and rally with you and you get something accomplished my friend.

Of all the suggestions , the sound proofing is likely to be your most effective short term solution. Yes, try to train the screams out of your macaw, a major reason a lot of them get re-homed. The only problem with soundproofing is - the materials are not cheap, and if not placed correctly will not do much. I can tell you that any space between doorframe and the door can be easily sound deadened by attaching single sided foam to the door where the spaces are. I had to sound deaden my music studio, so our rehearsals didn't disturb the wife and the bird. This was the first step and it worked great. Get foam wide enough to be able to score the backing paper where the adhesive is down the middle, and only remove the backing paper for 1/2 the width. A roll here in the US is maybe $20 USD.

Oh the guy is batsh!tcrazy and very poorly socialized -like most of the people who visit him- (and of course there still are/ have been huge amounts of (soft?)drugs in his life as well)-
- but right now I am just very relieved the "mob" (my other neighbours etc.) is blaming the right person for all the noise and not taking their collective frustrations out on the parrot.
(the far easier target)

Since Sunny follows the Greys in 'what to do' - I discovered I really have to stop Japie from going at one of his 'whining/babycries-sessions' and the Sunny-screams really are a fraction of what they are when he is also vocalizing.
Unfortunately the only way to shut Japie up is to let him out of the cage in the evening (at least while I am downstairs)...

So I am undoing most of his "be quiet in the cage at night" training for the peace of mind of myself and my neighbours.
(I got to adopt him because of the whining and the "I can make more noise than you can"-attitude, so it feels a bit like a failure, but one hurdle at the time...)

*sending gratefull hugs to everyone who reacted*
It helps *so* much to know I am not alone, you guys understand and help as much as you can. So wonderfull.

What a pain in the ass, lol...I'm so glad I live in my own house and don't have to deal with that, I have enough issues my own bat**** crazy neighbor across the street who actually called the STATE POLICE on me because I parked my car on the street in front of my house for one single night in a no-parking zone because a pipe had frozen and dumped 6" of standing water in my basement, and the water-mitigation company had filled-up my driveway with a dumpster and their industrial pumping equipment and fans...The people across the street could SEE that my driveway was completely full of water-mitigation equipment and a huge dumpster with "SERVE-PRO" printed on it in big, bold letters, so they knew exactly why I had to park my car on the street in front of my own house and nowhere near their driveway...But that didn't matter to them, they said that "They couldn't back out of their driveway because my car was in the way" (it was a good 50 feet away from the edge of their driveway, lol)...And they couldn't even take the 30 second walk across the street, knock on my door, and ask me to move it or ask why it was there, since I'd never done that before...THEY CALLED THE PA STATE POLICE AT 9:00 AT NIGHT!!! Not even local Police, the freaking STATE POLICE...The poor Trooper who knocked on my door at 9:45 at night didn't even tell me his name, ask me MY NAME, lol, or even say hello...He just said "Is that your car? Okay, can you just please coast it forward about 10 feet? Okay, thanks." And off he went...

People are crazy...and bored....

I think desensitization would be the way to go. No major home improvements needed and you could get quick results. Use recordings and start in the day. Do the neighbours wake you? If they do it would be useful so you can reinforce non-screaming.
