Perjo - Female CAG hatch Nov 2015
to my 2 yo CAG. She's inconsistent in eating her green leafy veggies. I need some ideas on how to present them to her so she'll take more interest. Right now she seems to eat them better when in birdie bread but I would like her to eat them on their own or with other veggies much more often.

If you do a "chop" of any description (where you put lots of veg in a food processor and chop it up finely) - you can incorporate your greens there. It's much more difficult to pick them out that way.

Are there any safe edible weeds or herbs you could try with Perjo also? She might not like the particular ones you're feeding.

I do a chop from time to time, problem is they don't keep that well even when freezing some of it. Once thawed they seem to retain too much moisture.

It tends to follow that if it is wet when made then it is wet when defrosted IMO. Use things like ground chia/flaxseed, oats, small uncooked pasta shapes to add to chop mix to help absorb some of this unwanted moisture but I have found that adding ingredients uncooked (where possible) is the best bet. Any cooked ingredients are better steamed or microwaved than cooked in water and leaving to drain a good while before you start processing.

I have noticed that trying to push a pepper through a disc grater on a processor produces more liquid than using a small electric chopper like the Ninja for small batches on pulse. Dont get dispirited, sometimes I am really pleased with my endeavours and others not so.

I do chop for my birds and freeze it. Agreed though that they do have a lot of moister once they thaw. It would be better to feed fresh daily, but for me, it's easier to make a large batch and freeze. Thaw as needed....

Have you tried a skewer made for birds? My guys go crazy for their green leafy stuff when I put it on their skewers.
Something like this:

That's a cool idea, thanks.

I'm not a dehydrating kind of person, I know nothing about it. Is dehydrating greens a thing and a decent option to add greens to meals? I'm guessing no, dehydrating probably means the green is no longer any good.

What about a green smoothie? That was how I got My Alex to consume greens as she would just throw them out of the bowl. My BFA on the other hand just loves rocket and baby spinach.
