Hi everyone,

I have a two year old conure who has always been friendly with me for the most part. In the last 6 months he has become aggressive towards me. At first i thought it was wearing a hat but i eliminated that by taking my hat off before i entered the room. However, now when i do enter the room my bird flares up and bangs his beak and head against the cage at me. The closer i get to the cage the more he flares up. I have tried just ignoring him (letting him cool down) and this seemed to work for a period of time. However, now whether hes inside or putsude the cage he flares up and flaps his wing and will fly towards me. During this time he is extremly aggresive and bites very hard. I cant get within a foot of him without him flaring up and lunging towards me. I do train with him and we make some progress but if i leave the apt for a half hour hes back to square one. I just want to get back to the relationship i once had with him. So i was wondering has anyone had any similar experiences becasue right now i dont think my conure likes me at all or is just extremly afraid of me.

I appreciate the response. All that i could find is great content. Thank you so much!

Just help your baby through this time and don't take it personal! He still really, really wants you, but his hormones are making his life unbearable! Remember, when you are upset in ways you do not understand, who do you strike out at? The people that are closest to you and your life!
The biggie, make sure you don't make any of this transitional 'trash' a permanent fixture!

My contribution...
Ever since the Rickeybird hit sexual maturity at about 3-4 years of age, I've had to manage his hormones! If kept on too steady a long day, and too much light, he stayed "in the mood" (aggressive, even louder than usual, pleasuring himself on my neck ) year round. If I keep him on a natural light schedule... up with dawn, down with dusk, year around... THEN he's only a little monster rooster from July to September). He has his own room, so I can do that easily.
