I rescued a 15 year old Congo African grey. I have been feeding him Harrison's Adult Lifetime Coarse Bird Food, although he does eat it it is the only thing he eats. He is soooo pickey he won't eat ANY fruits or veggies, I have been leaving them in his cage but he won't even go near them, he doesn't even eat nuts of any kind. I know that the pellets as nutritious as they are, their not giving him every thing he needs. So my question is should I add a supplemental feed that maybe has some dried fruits and veggies and seeds, and see if he will eat that in addition to the Harrison's? if so what brand do you suggest? Thanks.

I wouldn't give up yet on the fresh fruits and veggies though. Sometimes it just takes awhile before the bird realizes they are food. I would try eating them with him to give him the idea that they are food. Put them on your plate, eat some, make yum yum sounds and offer him a piece. I just got my amazon at the beginning of October and he didn't know what they were either. Now he dives to the food bowl to get them.

If you decide to offer seed, I'd give him sprouted ones only since unsprouted really are not more nutritional than the pellets he's eating.

Try some other thing you are eating as well such as scrambled eggs, whole grain breads or rice, spaghetti (no meat sauce, tomato only), chicken or turkey, and beans. Once he decides to try something, he will probably be more likely to try the other things you offer.
