Need Help on Sick Eclectus

I've noticed my parrot acting a bit sluggish and unwell since last night. He wanted to stay in his cage, so I put him to bed early. This morning, he didnā€™t seem any better and looked fluffed up. I weigh him every morning, and his weight is within the usual range, fluctuating by +/- 4 grams. He ate and drank a bit this morning, but not much, and his droppings look normal. However, he hasnā€™t shown any interest in coming out of his cage after breakfast and just went back to his sleeping perch.

Iā€™ve set up a heat pad on one side of his cage and a heat lamp on top to keep him warm. I called the vet to see if I could bring him in, but theyā€™re fully booked and can only admit him for overnight care with a possible check-up tomorrow. Iā€™m not sure what could be causing this, but the only possible issue I can think of is that he bit through a bag of chocolate-covered pretzels and may have eaten some chocolate. When I checked the bag, the pretzels were intact, with only a bit of chocolate shaved off, so I don't think he ingested much. Heā€™s showing no signs of vomiting or diarrhea, and everything else seems normal apart from his sickly appearance.

Normally, he doesnā€™t rest his eyes or nap much during the day, but today, he was sleeping until 9:30 am, which is unusual. My questions are: What could be causing him to act this way? Is there anything more I can do for him besides providing a warm environment? Since he just turned one last week and has never been sick before, how long should I monitor him before taking him to the vet, or could he recover on his own?

Thank you!

I am admittedly paranoid and over-reactive, but I say...
to the vet!!! :)

Certified Avian Vets
If none are near you...

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.
International contacts, too.
If none are near you, maybe you could call and ask for a recommendation for somebody in your area.
And... sometimes, distant vets will offer brief thoughts or advice...
Or... sometimes I find a place to start just by Googling "avian veterinarian near ((your location))"
Or maybe a local breeder might help... again, maybe Google?

Thank you! He's back to normal today:) I guess all the resting and heat helped him recover.

Piccolo is 6, a male eclectus. I have noticed that during this time of year he always gets new wing feathers. He will be a little crabby, and sometimes roost a lot. I actually took him to vet the first year out of worry with it. Increasing shower time seems to help him...

P.S. He's beautiful!
