Good day community!

I am to very professional in matter of parrots. I had 4 cockatiels now 3 unfortunately and was happy about it. I was contacted by owners of a parrot who were looking for someone to take their unwanted parrot who started destroying their expensive furniture. Me on the other hand did not mind. Previous owners did not even know what species is this. However they say its a she.
The parrot does have a tendency for destructions.
Ive never seen any info on avian profs in my little country, so here i am.
I will try to add the picture. I generally would like to know what species is this and any tips on handling are welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Not a caique.

Looks like a Lord Derby's parakeet.

Their cousins are indigenous to my area, so it's very clear to me that this is a Psittacula of some kind (aka Afro-Asian ring-necked parakeets).

Looks like you've a female - you can tell by the beak colour.

As for handling, you would follow the standard for Psittacula (any other ring-necked parakeet). So info on Indian ringnecks (our member, Silver Sage, is the resident expert on this species) as well as Alexandrines would be applicable.

she is a Lord Derby's parakeet (it's not caique)

thank you very much everyone! Extra kudos to charmed for a link. I found several more to articles. Now i can read to understand the bird!

Indeed It is a Lord Derby's Parakeet. One of the rarest of the Psittacula Parakeets
from Tibet in China and Arunachal Pradesh in India.

Here is a nice image from the wild

Lord Derby's for sure. Closely related to the Ringneck parrots. You are lucky, we have a whole subforum of this family, and Silver Sage can fill in the blanks. Congrats! I hope she settles in and you 2 have a long relationship.

Hmmm. Just saw this. The breast looks pink to me. If so, that's a female mustache parakeet, similar to the Lord Derby's parakeet but smaller and with a pink breast. (I have a juvenile male mustache parakeet.)

How large is your bird?

I also was thinking about mustache parakeet but she is Lord Derby's parakeet. This is a photo from a zoo (Lord Derby) and the breast is in exactly the same color as aboth:

It's not pink but purple color

To me, the color in that picture doesn't look the same as the original photo. In the original photo, I see the chest as a dull rosy color. A closer picture of the OP's bird in better lighting would help, as well as the size. :)

The color is the same. It is purple.
Here is moustached parakeet (from Wikipedia):
Psittacula_alexandri_-Changi_Village-6.jpg

Anyway it's not important longer because it is old thread and the OP probably doesn't visit the forum longer
Ps. Looking on avatar the parrot seems to have prple not only breast but also stomach (moustached has pink only breast, stomach is green)

No Rozalka

The color is not the same.

The Derbyan Parakeet has the color of an Eggplant/Blue berry or Black currant ice cream

The Red breasted or Moustache Parakeet has the color of some varieties of Rose, or Strawberry Ice-cream.
I have seen the Red breasted parakeet in the wild.

The Derbyan is much more rare.

Seeing wild photographs will give you a better picture

It should be perhaps more accurately called pink breasted parakeet or rose breasted parakeet as the color is somewhere between a Major Mitchells cockatoo and Galah, closer to the former

The best solution would be if OP posted photo of front, not back. Then we would be 100% sure the species basing on belly color. I'm looking on photos and to me OP bird breast color still seems to be more like Lord Derby's!;)

Yes you are right! I think I wanted to respond to Snap Dragon!. The bird in the OP is a Lord Derby s parakeet as I had responded too.

The pink is not visible at all.

The pictured moustached parakeet (from Wikipedia) on the right is playing a mind game on me. Looks like his beak is a human head.
