Not sure where this post belongs - so if it goes elsewhere please let me know!!!
This morning I noticed that there were 3 gnats flying near the birds cage- I just did a Big Clean on his cage last week and I do a lite cleaning daily- SO does anyone else get this problem? How do you kill those nasty buggars? I dont want to use spray, cuz of my birds and I dont want a tape cuz ...well my inquisitive bird would be caught up in it in NO time!!! Please tell me what you use or give me advise. I pick and clean his cage daily so there isnt any debris- like pieces of fruit of so on.

Some times of year are terrible for insects for me, no matter how much I clean!

I've found with fruit flies that traps work really well - if you drink wine, put a little wine in a glass or jar, covered with plastic wrap and a few holes poked in top. Or a piece of banana or fruit juice. I like using wine if I have it because it doesn't spoil but you might have to experiment with what your flies are drawn to!

I have small house fly infestations every January and it's so maddening!

Well I sure appreciate your advice! I cant drink wine ( darnit!) as I have Kidney disease plus I only have 1 kidney now. So I will try the banana and apple. Thanks again!!:)

This style of fruit fly trap works REALLY well, I do the version with the wine for reasons Cottonoid mentioned, so that it doesn't spoil. Even if you just buy a little half bottle of wine expressly for the purpose it's well worth it. I also add just a drop of dishwashing detergent to the wine, it breaks the surface tension and makes sure the little beggars can't swim or climb out.

Thanks sooo much!!! I will try it!!

Yes indeed, that kind of trap works great. I've done it many times as well. If we don't have a bottle of wine handy, I grab a bottle of the cheapest cooking wine I can find at the grocery store. The cheaper and stinkier, the better!

Fruit flies can be killed with some apple cider vinegar in a tin can. Cover the top of the tin can with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, poke a single hole in the lid and Voila - instant fruit fly trap!
