Blue & Gold - Echo
Ok my 6 month old Blue & Gold got this hair brain idea to knock her water bowl & snack bowl onto the bottom of the cage within 3 minutes of me putting it in there. What van I do to stop this. She gets let out of her cage everyday for almost the whole day. She will literally be on top of her cage on her play gym and watch me put her new water bowl into her cage and she will climb down into her cage take a quick drink and knock the bowl over. She has toys and everything in her cage. Please help. Not sure what to do. I've ignored her so she doesn't get a reaction when she does it and it doesn't work.

Mi Amigo use to do that move, I always thought it must have been entertaining for him. I finally got some scotch tape and put a few pieces from the bowl, to around the metal frame. Problem solved, kinda, sorta. These birds, (meaning, ALL birds), are so intelligent and need a lot of stimulus. If it's not provided, there may be problems down the road.

I agree with Mare. If your bird enjoys knocking over their dishes, then the only option is to remove the ability to do so unless they do it like Bob did and waited till she finished her seeds.

Are the bowls in the bottom of her cage? Mine are stainless steel bowls, attached to the wire and placed high in the cage to avoid them being fouled with droppings from the bird.

They are stainless steel pretty high up in cage.

lmao sorry but if nuts dishes where not barred down, she would so do the same. but she has grown outta it!

try putting them in, when he is not about :) as when ever nut see's me doing anything to her cage, she feels she needs to remove it

Rome loves to take any bowl and flip it onto the floor. We have to secure them so that she can't do it. You can try getting the bowls that screw onto the side of the cage (which may still become a game but will at least take longer).

Had the same problem so i now use water bottle problem solved.

Visit King cages, the bowls they sell have a round rim at the top of the bowl and when the door is closed, the bowl locks in place so the Macaw cannot pull it up nor out of the holder. Problem solved. Thanks Joe

Just remember if you use a water bottle to check the roller of the water bottle every day to make sure it's dispensing properly. It doesn't take long for a bird to get dehydrated.

This is what i'm thinking about doing. Getting the rings that attatch to the cage and picking 3 spots on it and wrapping a peace of Duct tape around it in those 3 spots. Feal like once I do this and put the bowl in it will make it snug enough that she can't pull it out.

There is a company called Lixit that makes locking crocks that have a mount that attaches to the side of the cage..it makes it virtually impossible for the bird to knock them over because they turn and snap firmly into place...they are made from very strong dishwasher safe (i think) plastic...hope this helps
