Lily - Double Yellow Headed Amazon

Kiwi - Orange Winged Amazon

Princess - Pearl Pied Cinnamon

Chicken - Pearl Pied Cinnamon
Hello Everybody,

I am really into getting a second Amazon and i have a few questions :

1 - Kiwi is a 10 Years old Female Orange Winged and she doesn't really get along with other birds, i am planning to get a Double Yellow Headed Female ( 3 months Old right now) and i'm afraid that Kiwi might get jealous of the baby..

2- They won't be in the same cage ( same room is a possibility) and i'm wondering if one of them start screaming is she going to influence the other one ?

3 - How are Female Double Yelloe Headed during breeding season; i've heard that Males are pain in the /$$ during Breeding season but i haven't heard much about females

Thanks !

Oh my gosh how adorable!!! She's a BEAUTY!!!!!

Ok, so I'm bit biased since I have one as well. ;)

Yes, Amazons can get each other going with vocalization, no doubt about it. My Hunter ALWAYS gets Sam going, but once Sam is going...there is no stopping him. Luckily they don't screech. They either talk, sing or whistle. :)

I don't know about female DYH as mine's a boy, but my 14 year old female YN is a sweetheart year round. :)

Hello,

Forgot to mention that i am getting her from a know breeder : M&L Aviaries - M&L Aviaries Home Page located 15 minutes away from where i live and they're the only Breeders in Canada that only does Double Yellow Headed

You know, not ALL male DYH's are a PITA when they mature. Have a look at my Quincy (RIP). Here he is sharing kisses with my oldest son. :D

I have a Blue Fronted Amazon....female named Anneliese. She is a year old and she and our Quaker really get going. They have started talking back and forth to each other. They are in the same room so it can be quite overwhelming when they get wound up!! haha! But very funny :)

Good luck with you new baby when you bring it home :)

Two amazons will defiantly get each other going, it's the flock thing I guess!!!
My female B/F is a darling most of the year. Breeding time I won't lie she can be a little nippy. But if you can read your birds mood... You should be ok.

Update :

I am bringing her home first week of august :) I need suggestions for a name !

I want to call her Chloe but my g/f says it's a human name and not a bird name !

My DYHs names are Trigger,Pedro(hen) and Mumbles . How about Sonny? short for sunshine.Would work for either sex. Yeah don't expect your 10 yr old hen OWA to welcome another zon into the house. They might become best of friends at some point but i doubt it will start that way, LOL.

Oh my gosh, how super exciting!!!! :D

I LOVE the name Chloe! Does it matter that it could be a "human" name? Chloe has a beautiful ring to it, and would suit her well. :) Sorry, I don't mean to cause trouble....there are hundreds of great names, but I'm not the one anyone should ask for "good" names. ;)

Hello Henpecked,

I am aware that Kiwi might not like it at first but oh well she is going to get use to that baby bird. I'm going to show the baby that Kiwi comes by doing eveything with her first.

I just don't want Kiwi to think that we don't like her anymore..
