I adopted Precious about a month ago, the back ground that I was told is she was with an older lady who became ill and couldnt take care of her then after she adopted her out the old lady died, the people I got her from said that they have had her for 6 months (had to get rid of her due to apartment living) I was told she was 4 y/o when really shes 17. she doesnt play with toys im trying everything i have toys in her cage on top of her cage i try to play with them to see if she will get interested and nothing she wont touch them she plays with a hoodie sting and thats it...what do i do how can i get her to entertain herself any advice is appreciated

First, I want to thank you for taking in this too in need. As 17, it is quite possible that Precious never actually learned how to play with toys properly, she maybe didn't have any in her cage for years and years, so it's not surprising that she doesn't know what to do with them. Have you let her out of her cage, possibly put her on a play stand of some kind? She could also be adjusting still to her new environment, at a month it is still fairly early in the adjustment period, and it may just take some time for her to come out of her shell and begin playing and relaxing.

In an instance like this, all you can do is keep trying to offer her things to play with. Does she have a favorite treat? Perhaps she'd be interested in a foraging toy with her favorite treat inside to work her brain a little bit.

I am hoping our local Goffins experts chime in on this issue.

She is out of her cage all the time when we are home, she has a play stand on her cage wont go on it or near it stays on the edge of her cage. I have a great play stand she is scared of I am working on getting her closer to it i have gotten about 2 feet away from it b4 she flies away, we are SLOWLY trying still!! She loves to be on the TV. when I got her she was in a 2 x 2 x 2.5 ft cage:12::12: now has a much larger one:01: anyway in the cage was a fisher price baby mirror and some old christmas garland beads. she does LOVE sunflower seeds I am using those as her special "training" treats and loves foraging on her cage floor I make sure she has lots to forage through..I am going to try and slowly introduce some foraging toys to see if she will like those. Im just trying to make sure she has the best life possible, I want her to be happy and know she is loved and part of the family. I know shes insecure right now due to the passing around but she has made big improvements with her nipping and attitude. we will get through this together

One month or so is still relatively new, and having a few homes in short order does not inspire trust. Your attitude is awesome, and you'll likely bond in short order. Goffins are playful and sensitive, but a bit less neurotic than many other species. Give Precious as much time as you can, and use the sunflower treats occasionally.

Have you tried colorful wooden toys? My Goffins are buzz-saws and enjoy macaw sized blocks, etc.
