Hi; just wondering if it is alright to give my Alexandrine native australian plants such as bottle brush or eucalyptus branches to play with in his cage. Not sure if exotic birds should have native plants. Thanks to anyone with advice:green2:

Id say it depends how much he is going to eat them. if he chews on all the leaves or wants to eat all the gum nuts id be a little worried about the eucalyptus disagreeing with his insides. but they are generally cinsidered safe. :)

Hi! I've found this really interesting video on birds which may be of interest. :)

Try not to give him the leaves - although they taste bad, so he probably wouldn't eat them anyway.

I give the Beaks bottlebrush and melaleuca and grevillea and eucalyptus and banksia and hakea and basically all the native trees. I give branches with leaves, blossoms and fruits on. The Beaks have a ball pulling off all the nuts and leaves and sometimes they'll eat the blossoms, depending on the variety of plant. They're not real fussed about grevillea and banksia, but bottlebrush and gum blossoms are a real hit with them. I don't think they swallow the plant material: they seem to enjoy the variety of textures. Paperbark (melaleuca) is especially fun for them and they like to pull the papery bark off in strips. It takes about a day for them to render a wrist-thick branch into a mess on the floor. I give my Beaks anything I see native parrots eating and so far it seems to work for us. :)
