Nail trims

While I was still in WI I would take the boys to the store where I got Jasper for their trims. They charged me like $5 each? No more than $6 each. I just called a vet here in town who is avian certified I believe and I was told $55. Each. Is this normal??? Maybe I'm just spoiled but I wanted to ask if that included an exam.

For $55 I think I should be able to take a hands on class on how to do it myself. Is there any such place?

I don't do it by a vet, I just have an avain groomer do it and for $15 she does the nails and beak, and I ma there restraining my bird, able ti hold her, and she uses the dremmel since I hate the the clippers. SO yes $55 is a lot if I'm only paying $15 and have so many options.

Most places here charges anywhere from $55-100+ The $100+ comes with an exam. There's no avian groomers so if you want the nails clipped, you either need to find someone experienced, do it yourself or to the vet.

Actually there are Avian groomer's. Typically they work at parrot shop and are the groomers there. They only handle avian, unless you count the ones who work at petco or what not, but I don't. I have a local parrot shop, with their personal groomer, who has been grooming parrots for over 15 years and that is her only job. I'm sure there's no certified avian groomer, but there are certified groomers who do only avians. And if thre is no exam and you're jsut taking them for a grooming like at alocal store, it shouldn't be that much, but vets do charge about $30 or so for a full grooming (nails, wings, and beak), but there is also a charge to see the vet (ranging form 15-60 dollars)

We have a parrot shop that will do nails and wings, price depends on size of the bird. It was $10 for my grey's nails. The shop owner does them right on the counter front in of you.

That's sort of the situation where I was taking them, it was the long time manager of the place who did wings and nails. Though this last time I took them they had to train the next lady in line to do them due to the manager breaking both wrists? something of that nature that had her off work for a long while.

It's a new area I'm in here so I'm still digging around on teh internet looking for such a place.

It was about $250 when I took Ollie to the vet recently. I think the charges broke down something like $150 for the blood test, $30 for the fecal test and $60 for the exam with the nail trim. I think they said it would be $30 if I come back to have his nails trimmed and have one of the techs do it instead of the vet. Does anyone know about how often nails need to be trimmed on an Amazon parrot?

You misinterpreted my post! What I mean is there's no avian groomers here locally in my area. If there was one, I would of gone there already. Not that there isn't any! I know there are some as I've owned birds for 16 years and have been to a bird groomer in the past. My first one was at Mini Critters up in Sioux Falls, SD.
