My sick bird

I have 2. Lovebirds and one of them has been laying eggs for quite some time, nothing hatched. Its been about 3 and half years - that's her age. She hardly used to come out when she was laying. The second lovebird used to feed her which became a habit she mostly ate when he fed her. It was all good until about 2-3 weeks before she stopped doing anything . She is sleeping all day, closed eyes, head turned to the back, fluffed up. She sleeps everywhere, on the floor , on us , she has never done this before. We don't have any vets for bird's around here so I would appreciate any help.

Please understand, you are not being ignored! You yourself have said that you are unable/unwilling to get your baby the help that she needs! She is dying, and suffering quite horribly!

Hi. WHere is here? We have some very knowledgeable people on this board ( not me), but you really need to see a avian qualified vet , that behaviour is not good, but it could be any number of things. What is your birds diet like? If she has been laying eggs for awhile, she needs extra protien , vitamins, and calcium. But acting like this , indicates more then just a lackof protiens.

Hello, and welcome to the Parrot Forums family. I wish it could be under better circumstances, however, as your bird sounds quite ill. Many of us could speculate as to what exactly is going on with your bird, but in the end what she needs is to see a certified avian vet. I know you said you don't know of any around where you live, but your bird's condition is likely quite grave. Consider that birds are prey animals. As such, they are instinctively hardwired to hide any sign of illness from the myriad predators they might encounter in nature. It's a survival tactic. So typically, by the time we can actually see that something is wrong, things have already progressed to a stage serious enough that they are no longer capable of masking it.

If you let us know whereabouts you are located, generally speaking, one of our members might be able to direct you to a relatively close avian vet. As Wrench13 mentioned, as a chronic egg-layer your bird may be suffering deficiencies in calcium, vitamins and/or protein. Or the problem could be something else entirely. You simply won't know for sure until blood panels are taken and a full checkup is given.

Hey everyone thank you for suggestions. I am in St. Catharines, Ontario . There was a vet in the area but not good as I tried him once, just found one in Niagara falls so I will try him ! I wasn't sure sure whether this was a sickness or not , I will try some extra vitamins etc as well. The birds poop I noticed is also more green and watery. !

I'd avoid giving vitamins until you are directed to do so by an avian vet. Remember, while we may have suspicions, we don't really know what the problem is at this point. You don't want to risk making things worse.

Toronto is like an hour and a half North if I recall correctly. There are a couple of members in that area and I believe there is at least one possible two CAV's in that area.

Thank you for joining and giving us the honor of offering advice in a time of need. As others have suggested, when a bird is displaying constant signs of illness, the process may be advanced. Given the choice of a mediocre avian vet vs no professional treatment, the former is probably best.

Please keep her warm and comfortable until you can schedule an appointment. Keep us advised as you are able!

I hope you got your bird to a certified avian vet, if you are only an hour and a half north of Toronto then that's an easy decision, as I did a quick Google search for certified avian vets in Toronto and there are at least a dozen!

Your bird sounds very sick and in the advanced stages, so if you don't get her to an avian vet immediately you're going to lose her, I'm sorry but that's where you're at. There are no home remedies or Internet advice that can help you.
