My new birdy buddy

Lmao, I totally just caught my parrot chokin his chicken on his fuzzy sleeping hut!

The bird definately looked like it was "giving" rather than "recieving", does that mean its a male, or do both sexes do..... that.

I have a female cockatiel that masturbates. All visuals indicates female, plus she lays egg!

Doesn't necessarily indicate male or female! Smaller birds typically masturbate in different ways, but in medium and larger parrots, they may masturbate in the same way!

Might be time to hide the humpy hut! ;)

Of course don't quote me on this. A breeder once told me the males have blockier heads and the females heads are narrower.Fun info [sometimes with their tricks their right. His head looks a little blocky :) love the palace you have him in . I have a sunconure ,but her wings will not turn yellow [their green].Starting to think Gingees a Jenday . Would explain why shes so quiet [Suns can be loud !!!]

Gingee is a Sunday if she's 2+ years old and still has mostly green wings. Since you already have hybrids in your flock, I don't think it'll matter that she's also a hybrid! :)

Man I really hate to take it out, to my knowledge Pirate has never had one and just started sleeping in it, she really seems to enjoy it(wink, wink) and I hate to deny him it...
Pls, with the nights getting colder its a good place for him to stay a bit warmer.

You really think I should take it out?
I definitely dont want my bird to become cage/hormone aggressive because of it...

I would take it out for now. I know from experience it is not good with the health to constantly have the hormones elevated. I keep my home at 62 degrees so it is not the warmest in here and my parrots do fine. I have one plucked parrot also. I keep the eye on his comfort the most because he is naked.

I had to laugh with Monica calling it a humpy hut. LMAO. That is too funny.

I wonder if you tried a different color hut???? Maybe that would stop it? Or they sell the really fuzzy ones versus the ones that have less fuzz ??

I would advise it to have the hut removed due to hormone reasons! It may be cute and all now, until he matures a bit more he may turn into a monster when it comes to his hut and you.

Ok, i totally hear what you guys are saying.

Heres what Ill do about it...
since its only happened one time and lasted for well less than 1 minute...

I am going to keep my eye on it.
If it becomes an issue or problem or I notice a definite change in behavior(so far only niceness and sweetness has come from this bird), I will chalk it up to the Humpy Hut and take it out.

I just peeked under the cover, and my parrot is in there right now sleeping, standing on his feet and not all rubbed up to any part of the hut really in any way...

Im gonna give my bird 3 strikes on this one before I call her out, the count is 0-1 right now, fair enough?

BTW- as far as I know, this is not a young bird, i get the impression from the short story I was told when I adopted it that it is at the very least 4-5 yrs if not more.

That works! Hope you wouldn't have to but keep an close eye on it. Also if there's any loose strings on the hut, be sure to get it cut off and repaired of necessary or replace it period. Check on it often! There's been members on here in the past with their birds, mostly conures I see people post, hung themselves on the hut. So that's another thing you need to be well aware of.

Great cage and Pirate is an awesome name! He's beautiful.

Thankyou :)

Ok, so today was strikes 2 AND 3, and the Love Shack was removed...

Also, spent the day yesterday at the rescue center I got him from, which is the ladies house, and saw all that she has going on, and I must say that she has at least 20 or 25 ish birds, and they are all very well taken care of there.

So come to find out, Pirate is only around 2 yrs old, so its very possible that I might have a pubescent bird...

Lol, she sent me home with a bird too....
