Thought it was about time to introduce my other pets. This will be long, but most of it is photos

We used to call our gang the menagerie since we pretty much had a zoo when I was growing up. It's kind of stuck, even though many of those animals have passed on now.

You all of course are acquainted with my lovely Alex by now. He's grown up wonderfully in the last few weeks, almost 100% off the formula now (he still likes the occasional spoon of it ) Handrearing him has been enjoyable, I would love to do it again one day. Not any time soon though!

My great grandmother, me and Alex on a visit to her house.

Alex and me travel a lot. In fact, that's an understatement. He's been via car all over the state (and beyond) And had boarded planes out of state with me already once in the three months he has been home. Above is us on one of our visits halfway across the state to my great grandmothers. Alex loves to travel. When he sees you packing his travel cage he gets extremely excited for the next adventure. But I've talked about him so much on this forum you already all know him too well.

Alex is the only pet of mine currently living with me. Which brings me onto my other love, my cat Cheezy. Cheezy will be 14 soon. He is a beautiful Maine coon x Turkish van. He was a gift to me when I was 4 from my mother as I had always wanted a pet of my own, and she loved cats herself (She thought she would be his primary caregiver, with me only being 4 and all at the time, and wanted a pet she could enjoy caring for too.) When I moved here for uni I, of course, had to leave my beloved old cat at home with my parents for various reasons, including my living arrangements and his health issues. But he is happy there and had a life long home, that's all that counts in the end, even if I miss him terribly.

He is an enormous cat. Thats him taking up half my bed as usual.

While Cheezy may live away from me, he is not lonely. My parents also have two lovely dogs, Ziggy and Munroe. While not my animals in the strictest sense, being family dogs and growing up around us all I still need to mention them of course! Cheezy and Munroe are the greatest friends although she hates all other cats. Munroe loves to groom and hassle the poor old guy when he tries to sleep! Ziggy was bought locally. Despite his size and looking quite scary at times, he is a total sweety! A few years later we made the decision to get another dog. We saw Munroe as a puppy and mum had to rescue her. Her breeder was not the best, and it reflects even as an adult. She has chronic skin issues thanks to bad breeding practices amongst other things. We still love her, even if she costs us a fortune in vet trips!

Another of Ziggy

At home we also have two cockatiels. They are also rescue birds, taken in from our local pet shop. Both hate people. One has a ruined foot and a minor brain issue thanks to people (Izzy), the other is just plain scared of people (Bee). They do seem to like my mother though, mainly because she feeds them goodies. The injured one, named Izzy, spends his days just eating and preening and occasionally playing with a mirror. It seems it is all he is capable of doing, but he is a happy little guy, sometimes he will chirp at you if you can get his attention. He can be so spaced out sometimes (the issue mentioned before) sometimes you can poke him without him noticing. Other then that, he has a clean bill of health.

Say hello Izzy!

Bee, the other bird is terrified of people and will hiss and attack should you accidentally corner him. Although we have tried for years, and still do try to tame them, we've come to the conclusion it's near impossible. Plus they are much happier with each other for company (When Izzy isn't spaced out anyway) and a nice big cage to fly in with lots of toys. Izzy is a lutino pearl or undetermined gender, Bee is a normal coloured male. He is impossible to photograph thanks to his fear of humans getting to close.

So I suppose that's our main gang! We also have two fighting fish, Aney who is below, and Phoenix (who I don't have photos of handy on this computer ): ) Aney was found half dead in a petshop covered in fungus. He had been traded back in and was said to be 3 years old by his previous owner. Wether thats true or not I do not know, but we have had him for over 4 years, so hypothetically he could be 7 by now. Fighters rarly live beyond 4.

My old Aney

My great grandma (In the first photo) also cares for two stray cats. Originally it was just one, but we noticed another scrawny one roaming around trying to get some food, and so it became two. The first stray is a male called Johnny. He is my grandmas darling and lives inside with her. The second one I have called Delilah. She is small and scrawny and scared and won't come near any of us but myself, so no luck coaxing her into the house yet. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one whos managed to touch her so far. My grandmother doesn't really like having Delilah hanging around her house (although she still feeds her for me of course), so I have plans at the end of the year when I move again to hopefully bring Delilah with me to my new house. Every time I visit I manage to make progress with her, to the point now that she's comfortable to curl up in my lap. I can only hope her and Alex get along. She doesn't have any interest in my Aunts budgie, so I believe it could work out well. If not, I'll just have to confine her to a room when Alex is out. Wish us luck!

Despite the lack of makeup and looking terrible in this photo, I have my Delilah in my lap for the first time ever!

Much happier and nicer looking after a brush to get rid of the burs!

Our house is called the menagerie because we tend to take in any and every animal that needs a home. And we give them a forever home. All our animals get the best of care. We love them dearly, even if they don't love us back! (Bee for example)

In the past we have been home to three guinea pigs, a stray kitten, our beautiful old dog Harley (who was around before I was born! I miss her even now) Rowena, a hampshire ewe who was attacked by dogs, we sponsored Rory, a hampshire ram owned by the local high school, we took in an abandoned lamb known as Avalanche, a bearded dragon, bourkes parrot, budgies, chickens, horses, a wild magpie and pretty much any animal imaginable that needed a home and someone to love them! I also used to keep and breed many types of fish, so we had enormous tanks everywhere (However with uni I no longer have the time, Aney and phoenix are the last two left!) I have kept many freshwater and marine tanks, but I have a huge soft spot for goldfish. When kept right (at least 10 gal of water and x10 filtration) they live amazingly long lives and get enormous!

Some of the fish in our pond. A mix of baby koi and goldfish rescued from bowls and inadequate care.

I don't think I missed anyone!

I'm pretty sure if I had the funds I'd open a no kill shelter.

Huge post. Sorry!
