just wondering if this fur like stuff on her body is normal. I was told she was close to 2 yrs of age. is it normal or should i take her to the vet? Sorry, its my first macaw, and i don't know much.
That is not a good thing. Those are her down feathers, which are much finer than other feathers, and do look really "fluffy". It looks like she may be plucking, and if she has pulled a lot of her body feathers, her down feathers become exposed. Google "parrot plucking" and you will see what I'm saying. Another possibility is she has some kind of infection. Getting her looked over by a avian vet is something you need to do to verify the cause of the feather loss, and get professional advice on where to go from there.
Can we get a better picture of the cage. Plucking can be coused by many things. One of them a improper cage. I see what could be rust? Is there a chance for a bigger better cage?
I do have to admit she does have somewhat of a small cage, but we are in the process of building a 23' x 14' x 15' room just for the birds we have. Do you think this would stop the plucking??
