My Lovebird hen laid 2 eggs in 2 hours!!!!!

Hey friends,

I had an issue with my lovebird hen, she laid 1st egg on 14th Jan 2018, 2nd on 16th, then I expected the 3rd to be on 18th as usual, but she did not.
since yesterday till today she is so tired, her abdomen is really large and looks like she is suffering pain, then she laid the 3rd egg finally but on the ground of the cage and broken, then she become slightly better and leis on the other 2 eggs.
but I was shocked after found another egg (4th one) also in the ground of the cage only after 2 hours from the 3rd egg, and this 4th egg was expected to be tomorrow, I checked the box and found the first 2 eggs present, so I was disappointed and I am worry for her now.

the 3rd egg was looking totally normal but the male eat it, but I found the 4th egg with very thin egg shells that mean prematurely passed, actually I don't know why.

I am providing them nice food, seeds, vegetables, fruits, eggs, Calcium and vitamins, now she it more better and leis on the other eggs, so any help or advise that can I do?

make sure you give her lots of calcium to keep the egg shells hard that 4th one being weak is a bad sign. Keep and eye on her and make sure she doesn't get egg-bound. Are you breeding her with a male or is she on her own doing it? If she's on her own re-arrange the cage and if there's a nest box throw it away as that will keep her going with the laying. Outside of that leave her to her eggs until she is bored of them, then you can throw them away (if not breeding) otherwise she will keep laying to replace eggs and can end up killing herself through over-laying

Sounds like you are trying to breed your lovebirds without any knowledge of what to do or what to expect. The fact that the eggs are being laid had a thin shell, abnormal. While lovebirds are known to be prolific breeders/layers, it should not be attempted by those who are inexperienced with such. You could very easily end p with an egg-bound female, which can turn serious very quickly and fatal if left untreated.

Hi friends, thanks for your support, just now I came from a Vet clinic of one of my friends (I am a Physician), and I discussed with him regarding this issue and he reassured me and told me why she laid eggs in such manner;

He said " The main issue is that the 3rd egg when stuck it caused severe irritation for her ovarian tube/canal, this tube normally making repeated peristalsis to push the egg out, by this severe irritation this peristalsis is increased and this pushed the 4th egg to be laid premature, and why it has thin shell? because it is still not fully completed/matured as it supposed to be laid next day not today, so it not a matter of low calcium it is only because it was premature laid.

He said don't worry, just focus on proteins and vitamins and keep an eye closely.

Just want to say for itzjbean, I have a nice experience with lovebird breeding for years, and I am doing it on a scientific base, I am always give my birds all types of foods with Vitamins and Calcium, and I know that sometime some hens can lay eggs with 2 days interval normally, but I never face one hen laying 2 eggs in 2 hours for that I made this thread to see if this happened with another one before, and this hen never faced any problem with laying eggs before.
