Hes so cute ! I love lories, they are beautiful . If i could just get over they're diet I would buy s bunch !

I love the rainbow lories and chattering lories! I heard the chattering lory's get very loud and screechy? and are the rainbow lorrikeets poops as messy as I'm reading they are? lol . They are such gorgeous birds!! Still dabating on a 2nd bird lovemyparrots, lol.:54::green2:

Yes Lory poops are messy!!!!!!! There's no comparison with any other parrot poops as Lory shoots their poop like shot guns....lol.....My Black Lory is screechy BIG time, he is constantly screeching or chattering away on his own. At least he can entertain himself.

He is adorable!!! I just love lorikeets, their colours are amazing. By far one of the most beautiful parrots. :)

Thanks Mike.... how do you deal with the messes? is the rainbow noisy? would you reccommend a rainbow lorikeet? and do you think if i got one young it would get along with my alexandrine?:green2:

I think the Rainbows are gorgeous!!!! I cover the back and sides of the cage with a towel and take his cage outside for a good scrubbing. There's no other way around that one, it's hard to wipe down cause they encrust onto the cage itself pretty good. I've been around Rainbows, but I'm not sure how noisy they are compared to my Lory and yes I would recommend a Rainbow Lory as long as you can meet their diet specific needs! To get along with your Alexandrine would be a different story, IF I remember right, Rainbows can get along with other Rainbow Lory, unlike my Black Lory, does NOT play nice with others even with it's own kind. I personally wouldn't take that risk.....

We had a moluccan red lory for almost 5 yrs, and did he ever screech. He was a good talker and such a clown though too. But he had learned bad screeching habits from all the other birds in the pet store that was owned by the breeder. We bought him when he was 5mos old. Prior to him, we'd only had a few lovebirds, so this was a totally new experience for us.

With the Chattering - we got her straight from the breeder, at 6wks old. She does not screech at all. She began talking at 3mos old. She is a dream. She actually holds a conversation. She hums a tune, imitating us. She anticipates songs that come on the radio and sings along. She has been potty trained since she was very young, and will run to her potty dish on her own, or if one isn't in sight, will tell me "gotta go potty" - and I then take her and set her on her perch in her cage. She knows it's perfectly fine to potty in her daytime cage, and often I hear her say "good potty" when she goes. We have a small cage in the kitchen where she joins us at dinner time and she knows not to potty in there, so she will run out of her cage (most of the time that cage door is open) and potty into the sink, then go back into the cage... or if the door is shut, she'll say "gotta go potty". So, we've got the pottying under control with this lory, lol

With our first lory I learned a lot about what not to do and what to do -- what methods work best and what methods don't work so well, and I put all those lessons to work when we got the Chattering 16 years ago. She's such a delight.

LoryLover,

Your making me wanting to get a Chattering Lory.....lol.....
After having Malachai, I am hooked on Lories for life....But one Lory at a time though as mine gets kinda crazy sometimes....lol....

MikeyTN - I hear ya on being hooked on lories... and I concur --- one lory at a time is enough, lol!

They're like little toddlers that never grows up, I know a lot of birds are like that but I think Lories are the worst.....lol.....little kids on sugar high that keeps on moving and moving and moving....you get the idea....lol

Lorylover, TY!!! Very helpful!!!!! Is your chattering L good with other birds?
Babyfae,

In all the years we've had our Chattering, we haven't had any other parrots. We don't have dogs or cats either... just a 150 gal saltwater aquarium. Everytime I'm carrying Sweet Pea past the aquarium and stop and say to her "see the fishies"... she says "want some food?". I wonder if she somehow knows they're hungry, lol!

I know that Chatterings can be very jealous and they can attack other birds. You'd have to do some research on this. I have a friend who had a Moluccan Red Lory at the same time as she had an Amazon, and another parrot. She didn't have any problems. So it seems that not all species of lories behave the same, except for their playfulness, which is their charm.

When Sweet Pea was only about 3 months old, she decided she didn't like anything blue, and I had a blue felt tip pen that I was using to write a note and she saw it and tried to attack it. Also, for a few months, she was very jealous of the phone and if she was out and about, you couldn't hold the phone to your ear or she'd be attacking it. Fortunately we broke her of that bad habit quickly. Now she just chants "bye bye, see ya later" over and over when I'm on the phone. She wants all the attention, lol.

Malachai is not to be trusted with another bird! I have always taken Malachai out separately during the whole time we've had him. Not long ago my ekkies escaped their cage while I was feeding everyone and I was feeding Malachai at the time so I had his cage door open. He came out looking curious hopping over to see the ekkies and bam he jumped Gracie and started attacking her, all it took was only a few second. Poor Gracie freaked out and flew to my chest where I held her and block Malachai from attacking her. He was trying to go for round two so I had to get ahold of him and put him right back in his cage cause JoJo was out too. So mine definitely don't play well with others like what I've read about them.
