I swear she's starting to say "hello!" She does this quiet talking pretty often and it frequently is this two syllable sound over and over:
[ame=http://youtu.be/p3PB48DeTxw]Raja takes a treat - YouTube[/ame]
[ame=http://youtu.be/CKjAqCChgAI]Four month old macaw trying to talk - YouTube[/ame]
Can you guys hear it in both videos?
Also, anyone know how to keep her off the top of her cage? She gets mean and stubborn up there! She grabs the door when I take her out or put her in the cage and pulls herself up. Is there anything I can do to make that an unpleasant place to be?
She's making progress every day but still have me some arm pinches today. The tip of her beak breaks skin almost every time. I think we are addressing it and I think I know why she did it both times today. Hopefully it stops soon cause my arm hurts and is starting to look crazy!!
By the way, am I doing the right thing to stop bites? I let her mouth my hands and arm with her beak but once she applies too strong of pressure, I quickly push my hand up into her beak like an upward jerk and at the same time I say "no" in an assertive voice. I push up quickly and then return my hand to the original position. Sometimes it takes two or three times of her repeated bites/pinches but she stops.
Finally, what about chewing on clothes? Every time she's on my arm she's chewing and pinching my shirt. What she's doing in the video is fine but she uses my shirt to try to pull herself up higher onto me. When she does it up my arm, I quickly drop the part she's standing on to throw her off balance (just a short small drop and I return my arm to normal once she stops trying to climb up.) however it's harder when she grabs the front of my shirt to try and get up my chest.
It's hard because I'm really short (4'11") and she's a big bird. Even with my arm at a 90 degree angle and as low as possible (but straight) her head still comes up to my chin! Can I teach her to now chew my clothes because they're an extension of me? Or just accept that all macaws do it and just wear old tshirts around her?
Anyways, isn't she precious? I can't wait til we get past the pinching and basic training. I want to cuddle her and play with her on her back so bad!!
