HI there
Our lovely African Grey Skye passed away on 1st March, he had contracted Aspergillosis a fungal disease. He was on medication, but its very rare that they recover, so we lost him. The house is so quiet, he ruled the roost, even the 4 dogs were scared of him !

We have always had a parrot, so are going to get another one, either an Amazon or Hahns but would look at rehoming charities first but dont know of any, can anyone help?

Hello and welcome:) I am so sorry for the loss of your AG Skye.. whereabouts are you?

Sad to loose any bird, especially a grey. My heart bleeds for you. Do you know how how he got Asp?

So sorry to hear:(

So sorry to hear of your loss :(

As I read about the death of your Grey my heart sank. I hope your heart heals quickly and that you are able to bring a bird back into your life soon!

So very sorry for your loss. :(

Thank you everyone, we buried him in the garden this afternoon.... poor hubby is distraught as Skye was his baby really although he put up with me and the kids Skye loved his Dad the most!
Although I would love to have another parrot, I cant afford to buy one, it took long enough to save up to get Skye 8 yrs ago as he was hand reared, so we have heard of Birdline who you can adopt a parrot from or even foster so we will look into that I think.

The vet said Aspergillosis is a fungal infection in the air sacs and there are so many reasons why they get it. It could be in their food, so good quality seed etc is needed, we ended up using pellets in the end, and cleaning his cage everyday. Unfortunately the disease is so hard to cure and even the medication they gave him is toxic to some birds so your damned if you do and damned if you dont........ xx

Unfortunately it can be in the food or water or even the air. You might be able to adopt another bird for free or a very reasonable fee.

I am so sorry for your loss!!!!! I hope you guys find one to adopt...a uv air filter wouldn't be a bad idea...
