Booka, Cinnamon GCC
Hey there!
My name is Robin and I am a first time parrot owner. I adopted Booka, a cinnamon GCC, two days ago and we've been getting used to each other. She's 8 years old and loves people. Right now she's a bit bitey, but I'm sure we'll work through that. She would love nothing more than to spend all of her time on my shoulder but unfortunately, getting her off is extremely difficult so we're stopping that for now :)

As for me, I'm 20 years old and I'm currently finishing up the prerequisites for nursing college. After I graduate I hope to work in a clinic type setting like planned parenthood.

I love animals and take pet ownership incredibly seriously. Besides Booka, I have two cats (which Booka is kept safe from, no worries), and four rats.

I look forward to getting to know people on this forum

Nice to meet you Robin and Booka. If you ever have any questions this is the perfect place to ask or browse old threads. Even now when I google something it usually takes me back here so I just cut out the middle man now and search on here.

He looks like he's getting pretty comfortable with you after only two days which is great. Ducati (also my first bird) was kind of the same way. He loved to be around us but was still a little bitey sometimes. I started using a glove until we got more comfortable with each other. Then he got to where he'd fly to our head if he saw the glove so we started it without the glove. Now he'll get a little bitey if he's in a mood, but if I hold the glove up he stops because he hates it when I put the glove on and he'll step up like he needs to. Other than that he only gets really bitey (like hurt you bite, other times it's just a little pressure, not hard at all), when he wants to go to bed. He gets very cranky around bed time.

I think you'll find a few of us have little "zoos" at our homes. My friend even jokes that instead of paying to go to the zoo they'll just come by our house. They get dogs, a cat, a bird, some lizards lol.

Welcome Robin and Booka! I have rats also-3 boys!

I'm very excited that we're turning my house into a menagerie. My mother was a bit reluctant but since Booka is entirely mine, she relented :D

I'm gonna ask here cause I can't find the answer anywhere: Why do people block out the word specialist with asterisks?

Welcome! Your bird will come in handy to help you deal with the stress of college. I remember (accidently) teaching my Orange Wing the maturation sequence of red blood cell and white blood cells. And he came in handy for speech class where he was a model for wing clipping.

Hello Robin and welcome to you and Booka! She is absolutely precious:)
I am so glad you joined us and would love to see pics of your others pets as well!

Welcome to the forum Robin! Booka is a cutie! :D

Sometimes you'll see certain words (with double meaning) that get automatically blocked with asterisks... Not the word 'specialist' though
