I love it! I got some cardboard, found some mcD's straws & subway straws (haha), took apart an unlike able toy (the blocks of wood), my dad sacrificed the laces from his old military boots (he retired a few months ago! Woo!) and some bottle caps. I can't wait to give it to one of the new birdies! I'm gonna make a couple, but this one is special and I want it to be very loved lol

How did you feel about your first DIY toy? Is this normal? Lol

You will be addicted in no time.
Hope to see more of your creations:D
Do let us know if they like it.
And yes it is normal ,i felt so proud of my first toy,and the one after, and after.
The feeling pretty much doesn't go away.

Haha

Well I was tending to the mice and gave it to kiwi..

He was peeved at first to be woken, but started chewing on the cardboard

Then he started chewing on the straws..

Haha, spoiled boy. Need one for mango now!

There's a bit of lace that was hanging down that he was chewing on a little though. Should I be concerned?
Also, should I burn the tips so they don't fray? I'm used to doing it but not sure with parrots lol

By burning the tips you make it more entertaining for them to chew on.
Which you don't want.
I don't have ever used shoe lace in my toys and never will.
But i just check it whether or not it had frayed enough to cut it a little bit back.
But do we get pictures?:p

Ok. From what I read shoe lace is fine. But wasn't sure about burning it. I didn't burn it though, just tied the ends

Great job! Be warned, the excitementt of presenting your fids with a new toy, never goes away. You will be hooked! LOL!!

Uhh. It's 2am here so he's kinda sleeping, lol. He gets to sleep in on the weekends, but I'm generally gonna try to let him sleep, lol. But he chewed on it a bit :)

No, it's not normal and you're quite mad.

Probably as mad as the rest of us who just hug ourselves with our own brilliance when we make a neat new toy! :D :D :D

I love your toy and you've reminded me it really is time to make new ones for all my lot. Hope Kiwi has a marvellous time dismantling it! :D

What a great toy! I have also read that untreated shoelaces are fine to use;) You creative types put me to shame:(
