Hey guys,
I just picked up a BFA this afternoon who was in desperate need of a (another) new home. They tell me she's 9 years old or so, very cage aggressive (which I witnessed first hand), she doesn't step up for anything or anyone- for any reason, she's had at least 3 previous homes, and she rarely gets out of her cage due to other pets and lack of time.
I got her home, after talking to her in the car for the 2 hour drive, and set up my largest travel cage (hers is tiny and she hates it) for her while I clean her "big" cage (not big enough for an Amazon). If she didn't like something, she would move away, but none of the aggressive behavior I witnessed when she wss on her big cage when I first saw her. After about an hour, she approached me laying low making funny little noises. She was letting me pet her. I even felt comfortable enough to kiss her head (I'm not sure why, I'm really not stupid & am normally always quite cautious). This continued on and then I could "smell" her! She smells similar to my Pionus. I didn't know Amazons did that. I love that!! I did upset her when trying to use a dowel to get her in her cage. Apparently she's terrified of them. Then I tried to force her-almost, to step up on my arm. She was almost kind of growling at me. I'm honestly surprised she didn't bite me.
My flock now consists of a Blue Headed Pionus, a Yellow-sided Green Cheek Conure, a Congo African Grey, a White Capped Pionus and a Blue Front Amazon. I'm feeling pretty complete. But I'm sure I'll be around here with lots of questions.
