here is a better picture of mango- she's as bald as they come when she is nesting, but grows her feathers back pretty well.

this is Snow & Twitter, they produce all white babies with a little hint of black and yellow

I thought this was fascinating- sometimes when you give the birds nests and they don't care for them, they will build to suit, ha ha....she has started building a nest on top of some fake flowers and the end of the aviary-so smart....

the one with the ingenious nest:rolleyes:

mr.cordon blue on top of his nest

Love the pic of Mango. She looks so fluffy apart from her head. Glad to hear that she grows the feathers back. Is the balding do with the breeding? Like plucking or is it like chemical/hormonal?

good question- the balding is due to breeding. I have read extensively on this subject as gouldian finches are prone to this as well. At first it was believed that lack of iodine was the culprit. then it was lack of Vit.A, or lack of calcium, etc....
I have yet to pin point the exact cause. I currently have them on organic Kelp and she is currently growing little tuffs.

I sure wish I could find the answer

They are all so precious! And that nest is quite intricate that she built:)

Ah ha....those are Cordon Blues. Beautiful finches!!!! ;)

love all the photos!!! I miss my canaries. I had a pair when I was little and then we had a kitchen fire :( my neighbor told me they were just sleeping when the firemen brought out their cage. It still haunts me 20 years later. :( :( I had a yellow one with a little hat named Tweety who was my male and a white one named Sugar who was my little lady. Mango looks like a doll, I like her a lot!, And Snow looks just like my Sugar! cute cute cute!
