I have 6 parakeets, two cockatiels, four green cheek conures, and one special needs parakeets.
I also have 6 outdoor doves in a heated aviary.
I am adopting 6 breeder lovebirds in pairs.
It gets frustrating and hard to keep everything clean so here is the system I made.
I wanted to upgrade my cages. Originally I had over $3,000 in heavy duty cages, but they just werent practical. so I purchased basic cages from Petco, which arent the greatest. The 18x30x18 basic flight cage has always been the best cage from petco but the cockatiel dome style cage is flimsy and unstable so I had to zip tie all three of the cages.
I want thinking about buying stackable cages, and decided to purchase
a few basic 18x30x18 flight cages. Then I realized that I could buy shelving for the flight cages.
While looking for shelving, I found different heights of 18x30 cages.

i purchased four 18x30x18 cages that came with four cages and a shelf for $200 [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GR7DFC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_10?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1KKNI1QDASESA]Amazon.com: Brand New Lot of Four Aviary Breeding Bird Cage 30x18x18/Stand - WHITE: Pet Supplies[/ame]
which will house three pairs of lovebirds and one special needs parakeet

i purchased one 30x18x36 cages on wheels

which will house one pair of cockatiels

i purchased two 30x18x55 flight cages
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CPAHXM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1KKNI1QDASESA]Amazon.com: Brand New Lot of 2 Aviary Bird Sugar Glider Ferret Cage 30x18x55WHT: Pet Supplies[/ame]
which will house my four green cheeks and my six parakeets

because everything is the basic measurement of 30x18 I was able to find extra trays
i purchased three lots of four trays
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009HGEUHM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1KKNI1QDASESA]Amazon.com: Lot of 4 Replacement Seed Plastic Trays for 30"x18"x18" Bird Cage White: Pet Supplies[/ame]
I have all 12 extra trays lined with newspaper and ready for use, when I pull out a dirty tray I put it into a large plastic tote for cleaning after work.

and I purchased two lots of 12 water and food containers
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009B1NS5I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1KKNI1QDASESA]Amazon.com: Lot of 12 Bird Cage Clear Plastic Seed Water Feeder Cups: Pet Supplies[/ame]
so I can just pull all dirty food and water dishes, use the clean ones, and clean the dirty ones after work.

I purchased 15 30 inch perches in small and medium sizes and i purchased 15 30 inch small and medium rope perches. I purchased more than I needed so I could remove dirty, put it in the dirty plastic container, and put clean in.
I also bought back up of every toy.

It was a bit of a money investment but it makes it soooo much easier for my house sitter and for myself to keep things perfectly clean.

you did what I did. When I first started breeding I had individual cages, at first it was ok, but as I expanded it got impossible cleaning them all, and like you said it just wasn't practical.
for the most part I have the exact same cages and seed cups, and it makes it so much easier, and I have 50 birds

my nephew built me this HUGE aviary, 5'x3xx7', it's on casters, and is divided into 4 sections. It cost about $200.00... I sold 5 of my smaller cages and made back every penny we spent on the aviary....

right now we are in the process of building new ones in my bird room so all of my canaries can be in one very long flight cage, it should be around 4'Lx2.5Wx3'H, for about $60-75.

the other one I want to build is for my lovebirds and conures. pretty much the same dimensions just a foot longer as the above one.

Once all my birds are transferred out of the flight cages, I can put my other birds in those flight cages in the bedroom, and everyone will be happy....but it's a lot of work!
