A Cockatiel <3
My cockatiel got his head kinda crushed in the door. he fell and started moving in cerculs. I thought hes gonna get up but then there was blood coming out and my brother took me out of the room cause I was crying to hard. They said he died, but when I started crying harder they said he wasn't and I took him to the vet and he said he's neck is not broken but his head got squashed and he bled from his eares and his eyes are bloody and swallowed right now. He gave him a shock needle and said that he might live or die and we need to make him comfortable so I put him in a box on some soft blanket and now he's sitting there.hetried to move but I heald him and patted him very gently till he stopped trying to move, was that a bad thing?

Please help me. Tell me what to do the vet is not specilized in birds. He didnt patcg his wonds he didnt clean his blood. I don't know what to do I'm just a crying mess tell me what can I do? how do I help him please. I don't want him to die please please help

I think he will appreciate your comforting touch. I am so sorry:( Is there an avain vet in your area?

OH NO!!. oh my goodness, he is probably in severe pain. you really should seek out an avian vet!!
I'm surprised he didn't give your bird metacam for pain.
place a heating pad on LOW, cover it with a towel and place him on it, this will help him stay warm and reserve body heat.

birds often will give in to their injuries, not from the injury itself, but from the stress.

he could have internal injuries, and only an avian vet would be able to determine that.... I feel so badly for you.

please let us informed, I wish you and your bird the best

I don't know what metacam is but the vet did give him something for the pain. He said the needle will make him not feel painfull and give him like a boost of energy.

I don't have a heating pad. Its very hot where I love so I'll just keep the AC closed. I put a cotton scarf on top of him to keep him warm. He's starting to move his head a bit now. I'm hoping thats good? it just worries me so much when he moves. Advice?

I really wish I had an avian vet, its killing me that I don't know one. The vet I took him too also had chicken and ducks so IDK. I hope thats a good sing

actually sorry to disagree with you here on the heating pad crimson, but if its a head injury, a heating pad or any heat should NOT be used. the heat is bad for potential concussions! if this bird has any brain swelling or brain injury (which is highly highly likely given the accident) then the heat can make the swelling worse.

in this case, a quiet draft free small cage, covered on 3 sides with a towel on the bottom only with his food and water.

this is an extreme emergency and i'm terribly sorry to say but the chances don't look good for him. but i will pray for him, keep him in my thoughts, whatever you like. i am hoping so much that he gets better. you and him hang in there!

however, injuries that extreme, i am not sure what else the vet would be able to do for him if you do not have avian vets in your country. i'm hoping for the best, and try to keep him pain free and feed him lots of his favourite foods to try to keep him eating and try to make sure he is as comfortable as possible.

He's spetting blood! I'm so sorry I'm bothering everyone but I don'nt know what to do.

oh no, ned! you arent bothering anyone at all!

is there another vet in the area who can help you? can you call around at other vets and see what they can do?

I am so sorry this has happened to your bird! I will keep both of you in my thoughts as well. Wish I had some advice to give you but I don't know what to do either. I agree that if there is an Avian Vet in your area that is your best option. However, I know Avian Vets can be hard to find. Please keep us posted as to how he is doing. **HUGS**

Dally is correct, do not give him a heating pad.
there is not much you can do, but wait and see, unfortunately.
it is very difficult to watch an animal suffer, without knowing what to do.

I would leave him be for now, don't try and remove the blood, that may cause pain.

you may want to try and see if he will take a FEW DROPS of water, no more.
I would try that every 30-60 minutes....this really doesn't sound good at all, I'm very sorry.

Only 4 vets in the whole city and I went to the best vet. The other ones are for dogs and cats only. In my country people don't own pet much. and the few ones that do; have cats. So all vets focus on cats and dogs only. I will try to call and search again. Insha'alla I'll find one

Thank you so much, your kind words and hugs help a lot

please, keep us updated on any news! i have my fingers crossed!

do you have spray millet? if so, does he like it? if he does, let him have as much as he wants.

Oh dear, my heart is breaking for you and your bird! I am so very sorry this happened to him. :(
Like someone else said, this is an extremely serious injury. Did the vet not suggest he stay in hospital for care?
Keeping you in my thoughts. HUGS!!

How is he doing? been thinking about both of you!

Hope your bird pulls through, Ned. Birds are so fragile, and the sight of blood can make you distraught with worry over their welfare. Having recently had a 'tiel with a pierced wing from a cockatoo bite, I can't begin to imagine how distressing it would be to be caring for a bird with a head injury. The lack of avian vets I can understand, having not lived within 6 hours drive from one for years. I'd be surprised if there were many dogs in KSA, what other animals are kept as pets besides birds and cats?

If your bird is OK after a day or two, he'll probably pull through as long as infection is kept at bay. Did vet give any antibiotics? I'd be worried that any infection in a head wound would affect the bird very quickly. Also, if he does pull through he'll still have to be kept very quiet as balance and flying ability may be affected so you'd not want him crashing when injuries not healed.

All the best for your bird, Ned.

How is he doing???? I hope he pulls through.....
