My Christmas Miracle

You all just better believe I could have done without this all together....but it did happen this morning.....and IMO it's a MIRACLE no injuries were sustained. :11:

I was cleaning the cages, just like I do each and every day. Big Macs were on the Java Trees, Amazons on the kitchen counter. Hunter was directly on the counter munching on her toast, while Sam was on the counter perch ripping through a walnut.

I turned my back and walked into the "bird room" (ex dining room) to get their water dishes. As I turn back around with water dishes in my hand, I see Ripley take a leap onto the kitchen counter, Sam immediately went into defensive mode, he started lunging at Ripley. Ripley took one step towards Sam, climbed onto the SAME counter perch where Sam was on, grabbed Sam by the foot, held him up by the foot, and chucked him through midair. :11: :11: Sam is screaming bloody murder as he is being flung and as he goes airborne. I'm screaming, Sam is screaming, Ripley grabs the walnut Sam was working on and flies back to the Java tree.

Sam is now on top of his cage - he flew around the house to get there.

Wendy = panic struck!!!

I truly thought I'd find Sam's leg/foot dangling, but there was absolutely NO damage whatsoever. Sam was FINE. No knick, no broken bones, no broken skin, foot not even warm. :11: :11:

Sam = MAJORLY ticked off at Ripley. :54:

Merry Christmas, JUST like I had planned to start the day - NOT!!!

SO very lucky nothing happened. :D

Oh my! LOL! That certainly would be frightful! Guess we know who rules the roost now. I'd fear him if I was you. Lol.

So glad Sammy boy is ok. Did you give him another walnut? He deserves a huge bag of walnuts and Ripley can't have nun!

Yup, you're right. Ripley sure thinks he runs this place - NOT!!! ;)

And yes, Sam got a handful of walnuts after that ordeal, but don't think for a second Ripley didn't try and get some more. He tried HARD, but I didn't let him have any of Sam's stash. :09:

Oh my, thank goodness Sam is okay! What a horrible morning for you (and Sam), hopefully the rest of the day treats you all better:)

oh wow!....not a good way to start christmas!!
all because of a walnut.....sheesh!

lets hope the rest of the day is much better
merry christmas Wendy!!
Beth

Gee, Wendy! There's nothin' like a bit of drama to get the old heart started in the morning, is there? I'm so glad Sam came out of it OK! Y'know, when you think about it, Ripley was pretty good in the way he solved the problem of getting the walnut. He could have really taken chunks out of Sam, but instead he only did what was necessary. He put some distance between Sam and the Walnut in the most effective way he could think of. Thank goodness he didn't start a battle over it - Sam really would have come off the worse for wear!

Have a few deep breaths and try to lower your blood pressure, dear. :)

Trish, you have me in tears, laughing SO hard!!!

Oh yes, with one CHOMP Ripley could have finished my Sammi off, NO ifs, ands, or buts. The size difference is tremendous. I know my Sam is VERY (over)protective of his morning Walnuts, but I never - in a million years - thought he'd be dumb enough to take on a GW over a Walnut. :30:

When I said he was miffed at Ripley, I meant it. Sam is quite the skilled flier, and he was doing circles over Ripley afterwards,....I'm surprised he didn't poop on him. :52: Ripley completely ignored Sam's antics afterwards - he got what he came for afterall.
But yeah, I sure got my cardio in for the day. :30:

And thank you all...the rest of the day is going marvelous. But I won't weigh myself for a few days now. :54:

Wow what a scary way to start the morning. So glad Sam is ok. Ripley had better watch himself so Santa will bring hi a lump of coal next year. :)

Hope you have a peaceful remaining of the day.

Merry Christmas.

  OMG!!! Poor Sam!!!!!!

I would've probably had a heart attack if I had to witness that and I'm so glad Sam is ok!! Especially his LEG! Good gravy... maybe next time he'll keep his nuts tucked away, eh? ;)

Poor Sam, these male DYH are fearless lol. Bosley is all excited today and has flown at my hubby and son tto try and get them to leave. No regard for the fact that he is only 1 pound.

Wow. I guess Amazons really aren't afraid of bigger birds. Poor Sam. I can't imagine what a scary sight it must have been to see Ripley launch him into the air. Thank goodness he's okay.

Yes, Sandy, they are fearless!!!! :11:

And Ripley's beak is about the size of Sam's head. :52:

Sam was VERY lucky today, and I don't ever want a repeat of that performance.

Oh gosh, what got into Bosley???? He must have wanted you all to himself. ;)

Good grief! What is it with all these scary things happening on Christmas? So glad it all turned out ok :)

Oh Bosley was just acting as the over excited amazon
Funny thing is lately he has been good with hubby and was sitting on his lap just 20 minutes before. At least his kamikaze attacks are only flying and not biting. I've trained everyone on how to block LOL.

I bet Sam is still plotting revenge on Ripley, so happy that everyone's Ok. I guess supervision is on high alert now.

Well Wendy that was a shock! I have been so busy that I haven't been on here and the fist post I read is that Sam is being tossed into the air by his brother! Glad Sam is ok, but in true amazon fashion didn't let it faze him and was circling over head! Ha! they have no fear!

Wow Wendy what a start to Christmas day
Sammy sure is one lucky bird
Ripley sure acts like he is control

Glad it had a happy ending

OMG....you had a scare there too like me the other day....I swear they'll give us a heart attack one day....

 Ripley, didn't your mother ever teach you to pick on kids your own size!! :p

My heart was racing when i read where he grabbed Sam, i am SO glad it was a happy ending!

Ripley could of EASILY done damage, he is a very good boy for just telling Sam to get lost and give me the walnut hahahaha

Although i think you are playing favourites here Wendy, poor Ripley was just left out hey? ;) haha

Very glad everyone is ok... No more scares for a while please! :)
