whoa!! you leave them free?? omigod, they must really love you a lot :) you have pretty birds!! how long have you had them?

It's actually pretty simple to train parakeets to fly to you on command to do free flight. When I used to raise American Parakeets and English Budgies, all the offsprings I raised were trained to fly to me on command. I did that with a Lovebird as well, but he's more curious in checking out everything as the keets stay near by. My Nico, Albino (Lutino Whiteface), female tiel flies to me as well. She'll fly around but always fly right back to me. I raised her as a chick, you can find post on her here from two years ago when I first took her in looking ragged as a baby chick, she was bloody and malnourished chick around 2 weeks old.

thank .they are 3 months old.just as MikeyTN said . budgies fly apart quite easily
I started training with me they fly direct on command. with harneet. 2 weeks after I drop them fly outdoors. and they come back to me when you try

okay, sounds easy enough. well my budgie wont even stay with me in my room. forget about outdoors :p

you try to fly outdoor . it's interesting ^ ^

I feel the same Cassie - when I think of how many people have lost their birds via an open window or door. My first lovebird was a bird that was found outside. I'm very impressed lebachu, you have a gift. And Mikey you must be very patient as well. I have never seen people bird pets flying 'free' outside.

thanks gary!! bamboo is too naughty. even around the house, he's always sitting on window bars, and keeps flying and flapping near the balcony doors. letting him free is like a joke. i wont see him again for the rest of my life :p

I see people doing that a lot with huge Macaws. Scary!

I don't have the nerves to be able to do that with my precious bird, although I do understand its very healthy for them to be flight trained.

You also have to worry about natural predators, which are super quick, like Hawks.

Adorable picture by the way!

my bird will fly away!! i cant risk it!
^^ hi . to drop like a fly show outdoors. I've lost 3 budgies. I finally succeeded. to get the experience that I had to pay the price

hi yes, hi yes. to drop fly outdoors. people often choose line macaw.cockatoo parrot, sun conure. there are some parrots lines suitable for outdoor flying drop. by the stability of our little startled, loyal, ... with a number of different types of parrots are more difficult. if you are not confident they can force them back and brought out, I think it's great ^^
I am also trained her drop a fly outdoor macaw parrots

in the free flight section you made a harness, right?? will it fit for a budgie? what type of wire is that?

Free flying ANY bird is risky- even if they are bonded to you there's a chance that they will fly away and never return. There are experienced members here will still not do free flying because the risk is so great, so Cassie -please do NOT feel pressured into free flying!!

I **personally** won't ever do free flight because I do not want my babies to fly away and die alone or get eaten by the numerous birds of prey on my property.

training process drop my outdoor fly :
1 . training birds on hand to command increasing distance
2 . Flight training at various locations :
+ Hand flew up from the bottom
+ Fly down from on high ( this is the important part because birds can later touch on the tree )
+ On routes have obstructions - > flying skills development
+ Play hide and seek with parrot : macaw and call out their hidden : in the training process I found them quite interesting with this section . (Later to bring the outdoors in the worst case your parrot hidden in the trees fill not visible you can hear the call to fly )
3 . control body weight parrot lows . weight at which they fly through the hands without hesitation
4 . hands between two people strengthen society , reduce panic when flying for parrots
5 . Flight familiar environment
6 . feeding after flight
7 . if you do not have experience , you should opt to drop some parrots like sun conure
..
That is my training methods . it can not be professional . everyone more suggestions
