My budgies are better than my chickens..

So my flock of rescue budgies live in a nice big cage with lots of room and activities...
But I like to let them out to fly and forage and stuff.
They are excellent at cleaning up around the bottom of the parrots' cages...

I used to chase them around to get them back in the cage, because I figured thats what I had to do...
Nope! I found out if I just leave them alone, they all go back in the cage after about an hour or so...

So now my routine is to let them them out for a morning and evening foraging excursion, and they go back home themselves.

Even a couple of my chickens arent the best at getting back in the coop at night...

There really is nothing like having the budgie flock act like a flock as much as they can in the birdroom, they fly together, forage as a group, and the oldest male leads the way back to the cage and calls everybody home.
And my bigger birds get mesmorized and excited when the budgies dart all over the room, they really seem to love to watch!

Plus the younger budgies that are clipped get the opportunity to flap and exercise and practice...

Theres 3 of them, the ladder lets the clipped ones climb back up to the cage...
Ill try to get a shot of my conure joining the flock on the ground, its really funny.

All my birds get along which makes my life easier....

wow that's just fantastic - my peach faced lovebird used to love foraging all over the floor grabbing at seemingly microscopic things I couldn't even see. It's good that your birds all get along, having all that space certainly helps, nothing like cramped quarters to bring out the worst in cagemates. Thanks for posting that.

It is EXACTLY like a birdy daycare when The Flock is loose, they can get into some stuff lemme tellya...

My plan is to build them a nice walk in aviary in the backyard, kinda incorporate it into the new driveway/patio and landscaping Im gonna do in the spring...

Lol, the beauty of that Birdroom is that I can close that door
