Hey There!
I am just a new member here at parrot forums and have joined it to ask for guidance from the well experienced members of the forums regarding an issue of my Alexandrine parrot's feather problem.
He(Rio) is 13 months old lovely boy of mine.
I have had him from a year since now,but the day I got him,he was already missing 3 longest tail feathers of his.
Gradually,no feathers on the tail are left and the problem is extending to the wing feathers so I am quite worried.
I have noticed that he,himself destroys the new pin feathers growing on his tail by biting/chewing them.
Focusing on his diet,He eats seed mix, fresh corns,fruits/vegetables one time a day and some roti(soaked in water).
Anyhelp would be appreciated.

We have a male Alexandrine that pulled out all his tail feathers and was less friendly.
We took him to the vet and the vet determined that sexual frustration was the cause.
We had to have the vet put a hormone implant in our parrot . At a $300 cost

I am hoping in your parrot that it is not a disease causing it or chemicals in his environment like cleaners, cooking fumes .

Take him to the Vet and get advice .

When it's just tail feathers, I'd worry about a yeast overgrowth, or bacteria imbalance. Getting a poop gram stain done and a fecal culture would be the place to start. Limit sugary fruits to once a week and no wet foods. No added vitamins in water or anything Ike that.

Offering fresh Greek yogurt and check it has live culture of acidophilus. Mine will live it from fingers. I've found it extremely beneficial. I try and offer 2-3 times a week. And every day if they are on antibiotics treatment.

Offering dried red chili peppers, or fresh peppers they have lots of vitamin A which helps immune system, skin and respiratory health. And lots of fish leafy greens and vegetables. Fruits are only offered rarely

Had this issue with my IRN added feather supplements and she now has her beautiful tail and feathers.
