I really need to stop looking at kijiji, I'm just tormenting myself! I promised myself a macaw (either a hyacinth or harlequin) when my husband and I build our own house, so about 10 years from now realisticly, but I just can't seem to stop dreaming! Now this beautiful guy is for sale and I keep pacing in front of the computer! It takes so much willpower not to take the plunge! Not to mention that they're getting rid of him because he doesn't like the male of the house and are willing to trade for a more 'friendly' bird...Grrr...

Harliquin Macaw - Vancouver Birds for Sale - Kijiji Vancouver Canada.

I saw this ad too. I'm not ready to add any more either, but it is tempting.
Do you know about the rescue here Greyhaven bird sanctuary?

FYI not all there birds are posted on line either, so if you can stay strong check them out when you are ready.

Karigan, does your husband know that you are having these temptation problems.....I'm sorry, but I don't know of any support groups in BC that you might call on for help.....

I'm sure that there are forum members in your area who would lend their support.....just not sure which support they might offer.....

I would not be much help I am almost without willpower. and that is a beautiful bird:D

WOW! What a gorgeous Macaw!

Wow! What a Beautiful Bird!!! You must give in to temptation!!:30:

you cant post on a (insert animal of choice) forum about not getting another (insert animal of choice) .... usually you just get a bunch of enablers :p

I saw a cute little conure tonite at Petsmart who was lonely and cute and...left him there.

You certainly have way more will power than I. Just look at my lineup of birds if you think I have any shred of will power. And if it were me, I'd be figuring out a way to fit that beauty into my home! I am a thinker & I don't take no for an answer, especially from hubby. I figure out a way to make it happen if I am passionate about something.

I know I am NO help with my 'non' words of wisdom, but sometimes you just gotta' follow your heart. At least that is one of my many Mottos I justify my insanity with. LOL But I do understand it is not a good idea for everyone to be so weak as I am. And I do admire your strength.

Haha, you guys are like the devil on my shoulder! I check out Greyhaven all the time, I hope to foster for them one day. They had a harlequin a few months back but I was able to say no :)

WOW that's an amazing Macaw. The beauty alone is enough to do what ever is needed to keep him home for good. I just don't get why people get a bird and refuse to put the time in.

Truth is I just can't justify such a needy and loud bird in a 1100 square foot home when we're trying for a baby. (This is honestly the only thing stopping me!) ;)

No need to "try" for a baby. There is a very colorful baby right there looking for a home. :D... Sorry, I just had to.

Karigan, I don't know if you're aware of this, but parrots are loud, messy, expensive, intelligent and manipulative creatures who....(just kidding. I know, you know, haha).

It wouldn't work for me either, lol. I'd be just as tempted by that beautiful creature (except I'm waiting for my Cockatoo. Maybe in another 15-20 years).

JUST DO IT! :D

OMG, did I just type that? :11: My evil finges got the best of me. :54:

That is a GORGEOUS Mac!!!! I'm sure you'll have room for him. ;) There go my fingers again....

Why not go and visit him?

You are smart not to add any more birds if you are trying to expand your human family. You will have your hands full. When my first child was age 3 or so, it was extremely difficult to teach her to keep her distance from our parrot. At the time I did not know she had Attention Deficit Disorder.

I admit, even though I now have two birds, I look online to see what is out there. It makes me angry to read the reasons for disposing of the bird. It's quite obvious these people didn't do their homework before bringing it home.

I think a responsible breeder should give a manual or brief overview on what to expect over the years as birds mature. I believe this would solve a lot of heartaches.

I want to foster or volunteer for them as well, I met that harlequin and I wanted to take her home too! Oh to dream....
I thought though it wasn't a good idea for my first bird, so I took the amazon LOL
I look all the time on kijiji mostly looking for cages/java trees etc.
I want to take home so many of the birds it's not even funny. The right bird will come along for you at the right time!! And for me too!

As much fun as it is to dream, if you are going to have a baby, you are absolutely right to resist another parrot right now. You can always reconsider down the line when life settles down.
