Hi, I am new to birds and have a question about keeping more than one bird.
I have a little parrotlet and have been asked to adopt a green cheek conure.
Could they both be out of their cages at the same time?
Could they potentially "get along" to where they could be out at the same time?
And how do you go about doing this?

I have a friend on another forum who has a Parrotlet and a GCC, and they LOVE each other! They could certainly get along. That said, no two birds should be unsupervised during time out...as the bigger beak always wins.:)

Wow that's great. So how do you go about introducing them? I'd love to ask your friend some questions :)

Quarantine for 30 days FIRST. That means separating them to avoid diseases, different cages, different rooms. Even birds that come from the BEST breeders could carry something potentionally deadly. I lost 6 birds from NOT quarantining.

First of all, welcome to the forum!

I agree with both of the above posts.

With close supervision, they should be fine. Be very careful when introducing the birds to one another, and always watch for signs of agression such as flaring of the tail feathers, hissing, and threatening to bite by opening the beak toward the other bird. They will then need to be separated immediately just to be safe. You need to know these signs when introducing any bird to your existent flock.

Best wishes!

It's hard to say how one bird will react or interact with others, I don't know from first hand knowledge, but I have heard that Parottlets can be territorial and sometimes aggresive towards other birds, even those of their own species, maybe you'll have some members owned by p'lets that can advise you better...........

Just like people, there's no way to know that 2 birds will like each other. That said, you have great advice above - supervision and quarantine!

BTW - welcome to the forum!

no parrotlets cant b together with any parrots, they are territorial birds and aggressive towards other parrots, my parrotlet doesnt get along with my ringneck

So once quarantined is there a way that works better to introduce the two.
The Parrotlet is still a baby and is new in my home, where the conure has been here a few times that I have bird sat so she is already comfortable with me.
Just wondering if anyone has any advise on how to introduce the two so they have a better chance at getting along.
THanks

try putting their cages together
or just put the parrotlet on top of the cage and observe their behaviour
