I keep parrots in an aviary and not as pets in a cage. However, I do have a relationship with them. I spend a good deal of time in the aviary with them. The kind of parrots I raise, Polytelis and Psephotus, are actually almost naturally tame.
I have a single Mulga Parakeet in the aviary. He is a very young bird. He is quite a character. He is in with a pair of Princess Wales and Regent Parrots. However, he is quite spunky. He loves to fly.
Mulga Parakeets are very pretty and do live up to their name, "many colored parakeet." They are quite birds although they make many different sounds. They don't scream or screech. They are voracious eaters. They have big personalties but are small birds. Really, I would think a perfect size for a pet. They like to chew on things but are not damaging to stuff.
They are not very expensive. I wonder why they are not more popular as pets? I would think a hand raised one would be a very good companion.
Does anyone have experience with them?
