Moving to a pet store Environment?

We had a great pet store here in town, but last year there was a tragic fire that destroyed the entire shop. They're currently rebuilding and updating everything...the building previously lacked a sprinkler system (?!) and I believe the wiring was not up to code. Now they have all sorts of fire-safety approved stuff.
But they had all sorts of animals; a lot of exotics- kinkajous, coatimundis, red kangaroos, etc..as well as other animals- reptiles, fish, birds, etc

They had these two tortoises who would just wander around the shop, but they had their little stations with lamps and feeding areas lol.

We had a Bird Only store that was great! Yes I agree that the Store Mascots are a big draw. The reason it went belly up though is that it could not compete with internet prices!! I mean, myself, I would get there and realize that I could get much cheaper prices delivered straight to my house. I would try and support the local business but the gap was too big. Everyone has a computer nowadays and less time to shop and a lot of pet sites offer free or minimal shipping.
We had 3 pet stores closing in the past couple years not able to stay afloat. It is hard to compete with online prices.

And with birds, buying online from a bird free environment is actually a plus as well. Not so much the case for dogs and cats etc.
