The past couple weeks, we've been moving little by little. Today was the 'big' day though. Our last day at the old place, we rented the uhaul, and packed the last of the big stuff and birds.

Don and I have come to live with my elderly dad in his home. He was living alone, and lately is really needing some assistance, as it has become dangerous for him to live alone anymore. On top of that, it is an opportunity for Don and I to do some catching up financially. I've never had kids, and Don's kids are out of state. Of course there are pros and cons to this new living arrangement. But anyway...

So what are the mishaps you wonder?...
First... At one point I was walking back into the house, and SOMEHOW as I stepped up and crossed the threshold into the doorway of the front door, one of my feet got tangled on my other foot. So basically I tripped myself!! :11:I FELL on the hard floor and bruised the left side of my body... ankle, hip, shoulder, skinned my knee, AND HIT MY HEAD on the hard floor! I went down so fast I didn't have time to react and protect my head. I was so scared (aneurisms run in the family) so of course all I was thinking was oh no I hope I'm not gonna die!! Lol. So if you stop seeing me post... :52:. I might be a little sore, but Thank God I didn't end up seriously hurt. Thank God because it was ONLY Don and I, we didn't have anyone helping us, and it was very hard. I rested for a few minutes, but I had no choice but to get up and finish.

Then, when moving my very heavy desk (tall, large triangle, and cumbersome) it broke apart beyond repair. Oh well, it was old and ready to go, but I REALLY LOVED IT!! I loved the unique design and I wasn't ready to get rid of it. :( Too bad.

After that, we were hungry and thirsty, and pressed for time, so we found a quick drive thru. I was just about to enjoy the first bite of my burrito, when it exploded out the bottom. There were beans, cheese and green sauce on the seat, in my lap, on the steering wheel... They didn't give us napkins, and I didn't have any in the car, and my hands were dripping with ingredients, so I had no choice but to wipe my hands on my black t-shirt!! Then I had to walk around all day wearing a large amount of dried burrito hoping no one noticed... :52:

Well, we had so much to do, and so much traffic today, we didn't get to go to the dump in time, though we had the truck loaded up, so we couldn't give the uhaul back today. It was available again tomorrow thank goodness, but now we have to pay an additional $60 for use tomorrow. I can't wait til this is all over!!

Then I'll be busy sorting through tons of our stuff deciding what to take to Goodwill. We already had to give up furniture, and it's proving to be a big challenge to fit ALL of our belongings into 2 rooms in the house. Our 'stuff' is engulfing my dad's entire living room, so out of courtesy we need to get rid of things asap. It's very hard going into a smaller living space.

Long exhausting day, but thankful we only had 'mishaps' and not disasters!

OMGoodness Julie, Bet you are glad the day is OVER !!

I think everyone has done that before (trip themselves) its kinda funny if you don't get hurt, as it happens you're like "What the heck, Really??"

I'm glad you are almost DONE !!

On a Lighter note, It almost sounded like a "Benny Hill" skit LOL

Hope you have a Much Better Day in the Morning !!

Oh my! I hope our move goes better then this....you have me nervous now:11:

I trip myself all the time.... one time at college I actually tripped myself on stairs while in my new leather boots. I kneeled there for a couple seconds after falling down the stairs landing on my hands and knees... looked up to see if anyone saw, mourned my new boots, told the poor lady that had been sitting on the bench watching the whole time that I was fine then scurried away as fast as possible...

Edit: And lets not forget the time I tripped and fell down the stairs in high school...somehow landing up side down. My friends found it funny till I couldn't walk down the rest of the stairs for a couple minutes from the shock of the sudden fall...

Joe, another hectic day ahead:31: but we will survive!

Victoria, how embarrassing :) I can relate! I've even fallen going UP stairs.

Well, somehow in the chaos today, I've managed to lose the syringe dropper to Robin's meds!! :( it's not in the bag with the bottle! I will have to drop by the vets tomorrow and get one for $5 I guess, and Robin will miss 2 doses :(.

Sounds nuts.. Gonna be fun when we move 6+ hours away.. Not much room to 'come back tomorrow'.
What time is it there? I notice you're always up late like I am. Don't get me wrong, I like the company since everyone else in my apartment is sleeping. But it's like 1 AM here. Lol.

I feel your pain. We've gone a bit minimalist since our move lol. Just look at the positives, you now have 2 less things to find a place for- the burrito shirt and the desk. I know it's overwhelming, especially if your especially sore, but I'm sure you'll be able to get it done. Best of luck with it.

If you're in Texas, you are 2 hours ahead of me.
I do notice the certain 'regulars' are on late. :) In time my schedule will probably change.

Oh cool, so it isn't *that* late over there. :p
I always appreciated having friends in different time zones. So when I am awake from 12AM-4AM I have friends who were also awake, but it at a much more reasonable time for them. Hah.

I do try to be in bed by 1:00 except on the days I need to get up early. I do suffer from insomnia like you.

Hmmm..... Gettin LATE here on the East coast...... Nite Nite Parrot Peoples :)

Talk about staying UP LATE... I don't think anyone is up later than Joe!! He's on the East coast and is usually STILL posting with us at 3 am over there! :D

Lol... Goodnight, Joe. I swear you're online all the time.

I try for 1 AM. But, even if I'm not online, I'm tossing and turning and I just end up getting frustrated and having a more difficult time getting comfy. So I've found that staying up late reading(forums and whatnot) is much easier on my brain than trying to be completely still until I knock out.

Sorry to go off topic of your thread hehe. Hope you get some rest soon, don't want to have another 'off' day tomorrow! Hopefully you won't be too sore from that fall. :(

Hey Julie, hope today goes better for you!

My kid showed up in San Diego yesterday with pretty much nothing other than his clothes and an air mattress. He's taking minimalist to a whole new level.

Good luck!

I feel for you we moved so much with my husbands work that I had it down to a science but it was never pleasant! Downsizing as well makes it even more difficult but I am sure your dad is grateful for the help! It is so hard when our parents lose their independence, I miss my father everyday.:(

I am glad you are okay from the fall, I myself am not known as graceful my husband says I am the only person he has ever known that can fall UP stairs.

I hope the rest of your week is better!:)

Julie, I have to tell you this story about the time I helped my sister move house! It might lighten your day a little. :)

Hubby and I were helping empty my sister's (rented) house and clean rooms on the Last Moving Day. My sister was polishing the parquet floor in the living room, her hubby was washing walls in the main part of the house, my hubby was mowing outside and I was scrubbing the bathtub. Apparently, my sister called to me for some reason, but I didn't hear on account of, I was singing (loudly and with great passion) the Flower Duet from 'Lakmé' (Yes, I always sing duets on my own - nobody will sing them with me! :( )

Anyway, sister dear got quite cranky at my lack of a response and so she dropped her polishing rag and got up to stomp through the house and give me an earful. As she did, her dainty little phoot happened to find the one, unique and lonesome square of parquetry that had been completely eaten away by termites in that whole entire floor. Immediately, that one lonely square gave way and my sister instantly became buried up to her groin in parquet. Her poor little leggie was completely out-of-doors and dangling beneath the house while the rest of my sister was immobilised on the floor. She began to bellow (loosely translated) 'Me leg! Me leg! Owwww! It hurts! Patriciaaaahhhggg! Get Mum! Owwwww! Me leg!' and then she sank into a rather more vulgar turn of phrase which I won't repeat here.

(Excuse me a moment while I ROTFL quietly into my cupped hand...)

Now, I should point out that the parquet section was about eight inches square, which was signally much less than the diameter of my sister's pudgy little leggie. I will concede that she must have been in considerable pain. However, the sight of her trapped in parquet was more than I could bear and I'm afraid I got a fit of the giggles. This went over like the proverbial lead balloon, so a lot of the vulgar repartée became directed at me!

Anyway, it eventually took a couple of hours to free my poor sister (LOLOLOLOLOLOL!) from her prison. During that time, she continued to bellow for Mum. I was completely mystified by this as my Mother is not particularly known for levitation or even for her ability to raise people up from being trapped in a parquet floor. Nevertheless, I did ring Mum and held the phone so she could hear the perfectly dreadful things my sister was saying about me.

The upshot of the whole incident was that my sister's leg eventually turned quite black and blue. She spent an evening in the hospital where she could no longer bellow expletives at those who tried to help her and by the time she got home again, she had forgotten most of the threats she had directed my way. The landlord, who had been going to withhold part of her security deposit (the cleaning was never completed) decided suddenly to let it go. We believe someone might have mentioned that she could sue him for damages caused by his unsafe parquetry. :)

Julie, I feel for you, my friend...there is nothing worse than moving, and it seems that anything that can go wrong will. My worst move was when I moved form WV up here to Canada. I had to put a list on each box as well as in a separate notebook of everything in each box, along with how much it was worth. I was moving with 5 cats, an iguana, a large snake and a bunch of plants.
First issue we had was I had a big parrot cage that was supposed to fit in the back seat of my car for the cats to ride safely in for the trip( we were hauling the car behind the Uhaul). Well, at 2am when we are getting ready to leave, I realized I had measured wrong and it wouldn't fit, so the cats had to be loose in the car. One window would not go up, so we had to use cardboard with holes in it to block the window.
We were in a rush since we had to meet Fish & wildlife at the border on a certain day and time. You should have seen us trying to sneak all those animals into hotels!
After a flat tire & broken hitch, we finally arrived after 5 days of driving:(

Anyway, I hope you have no more issues today, and that the burrito comes out of your shirt:) Thinking of you and sending good thoughts today!

@Trish, I LOVE your stories!

Trish! You are THE BEST story teller! I could listen to you all day! I'm at work giggling :)
