Hey, everyone it's been awhile since I've posted on here.. Little update of Korben!! He's a big happy, fun loving boy!! He's pretty much come into his own!! He's amazing... he'll be 1 on june 6th! he loves his tree stand and rolling over and playing all day!! He's getting a sence of humor.... and if you leave the room he will climb down and track you down.. I love it.. but hoping that is something we a break! he loves car rides and trips to the pet show and park!

We are military and just got put on orders.. What is the best and most comfortable, non stressful way to move him.. we are about to drive a 18 hour car ride.. what is the best way??. the cage i have is way to small (for his tail).. I was thinking a medium sized dog crate.. with a perch water and food.. with a blanket over him.. was what i was thinking and tons of stopping and loving on the way.. or is it best to just leave him alone?? I figured once we get to the new house set his cage up the exact way we had it here and give him a day or two to adjust.. and/or dont mess up his routine.. he's pretty much knows what is about to happen and is amazingly aware to everything we do!!

Thanks for any advice.. i thought about flying him home.. but i dont have anyone here to keep him, I trust.. I don't trust anyone with my own kids.. and he's my baby so NO! I want to make this move as easy and stress free as possible!

Dog crates work well for large birds, but I would forget the water...too easily spilled, even from water tubes...every time the bubble pops, you get more water run out.....

Instead, bring grapes, apples & oranges.....also, you'll want the cage high enough that he can see everything around him...not strapped in & covered with a blanket, though a blanket on the cage bottom might be a good idea & a 1.5" perch mounted so he's got good head room & probably forward of center so he's comfortable in front & with his tail.....

All of my birds like to ride, but I started them off with short trips around the area.....i did take 2 days to make an 800 mile trip once, only because my co-pilot needed to make a lot of head stops & I didn't want any effluent in the van, but neither bird had any problems, including a straight through from Worcester, MA to NW Georgia, with 4 essentially wild sun conures.....

On second thought, maybe just papers in the bottom of the cage.....I'm assuming you've got an SUV & the cage will be on the cargo deck and if he were to get tangled in the blanket, he could get spooked before you could safely pull over, then I've never used a blanket, just newspapers, though all of the birds I've traveled with have bathed at the end of the trip.....

I have an Alex that we travel with regularly and she loves it. I have a travel cage for her which is quite tall too allow for her long tail. I find for water I get her to drink from a pump top water bottle. She loves this and thinks it is a great game. We also give her jus the basic diet other wise she gets an upset tummy. We usually stop every couple of hours -the trips home to my parents is about 7 hrs. She loves the car and usually just ends up sleeping in her happy hut.
