Moving across the country

great finding this thread in April im moving a 1000 mile trip make it in a day
i have travel cages that the 2 have been in before. im flying my brother inlaw in to drive the truck and the wife and i will be in the car with the birds. unlike the OP my move is due to got to get out of the city and back to the farmlands. i knew better they to get into the city again, but i had to help an ailing mother.
i was going to ask about anything special i should do but i think i got my ducks{parrots} in a row and hoping for a low stress travel day.

thanks again

I drove from New Mexico to Ohio with the Rickeybrd in a travel cage strapped into the passenger seat, dog and cat in crates in back seat. 2,000 miles of dulcet Patagonian commentary. He was too loud to go inside motels, so I slept in the car while husband, dog and cat went into motels. I would release the Rb at night, doors locked, so he could move around while I stretched out across the seat. I'll spare you the tedious details. It was crazy, but we made it!

No easy task for a one day trip! I'm assuming the truck is a five ton version and not the smaller one ton truck, correct?

With a 5 ton truck, you should use 50 miles per hour as you 'best time' as this builds in fuel, potty, and food breaks. And, that brings the trip into a solid 24 hours.

My only comment is to plan for at least a couple of days on the road. The combination of Weather, Traffic, etc... could come into play and planning for the worst always helps.

Safe Trip!

thanks for all the good tips, i am going to do an overnight
and the parrots will be riding in the comfort of the SUV, while im flying my brother inlaw
in to drive the truck back, so they wont get a rough ride they will be jamming to the tunes, and watching out the windows.
i have found this out there is much added bucks to get the job done right when moving with parrots.

thanks again
